Up Front: The Up Front Guide to Plebs, in reply to
Something I discovered today. In England, adultery is grounds for divorce if you're married, but not for dissolution if you're in a civil partnership. But if you're in a same-sex marriage, you can only divorce your partner for adultery if they sleep with someone of the opposite sex. So if your husband sleeps with another man, that doesn't count as adultery.
Whoops! Somebody really should fix that...
My understanding of the current law in Australia is that if one spouse transitions, the couple has to divorce.

Also, like Bart, I would happily watch another season of The Blue Rose. It had flaws, but quirky character-driven drama with women at the heart? Give me more of that.
I’m also a big fan of Flat 3. <3 local creativity.
On that subject, at the risk of a threadjack, can I sing the praises of 3 Words? It’s a compilation of recent comics drawn by NZ women. Some of the artists are professionals and award-winners, others novices. The breadth and depth of talent is jaw-dropping. Some of the comics I love and some I don’t, but I’m so glad to see them all.
I wish there were a TV equivalent – a showcase for short videos, maybe? With funding and mentoring to expand on the most successful. Public voting! Why not?
I loved Funny Girls. Not all the sketches worked, but the best ones had me chortling for days.

I think Harry was the most promising NZ TV venture in recent times.
+1. Harry was brilliant.

A quote that spoke to me was,
“They’ve taken control of rebuilding our city. They’re like: 'We’ll tell you when it’s ready for you to use.'” -

NB: The Art Of Recovery is on TV One tonight (Tuesday) at 9.30pm
Wow, that was really, really great. I hope lots of people watched. Bravo to all the awesome community leaders making creative things happen in Chch, and bravo to Young and his team for recording it.

I think the fact that Public Address was able to be a space for Christchurch people to talk is the most important thing that’s happened on the website.
Emma linked me back into one of those threads earlier. A real time capsule. Important then, and valuable now. Thank you, Russell.

I’ve thought and written so much, privately and publicly. Today I can’t find the right words, if there are any.
I’m thinking of everyone else affected by the perpetual disasters in Chch and Canterbury.A few weeks ago I was in Hastings, and I turned a corner and looked up in shock at Port Hills that were horribly twisted and wrecked.
Of course I was looking at Te Mata Peak and it’s meant to look like that.
But that cringing feeling that anything can be spoiled or destroyed, it doesn’t go away.

it just takes one more bad thing – a bereavement or illness or relationship breakdown to tip them into a much darker place than they would have gotten to had the background radiation of quake stress not been there.
Yes. Sadly, all the ordinary shitty things still happen in the aftermath of a natural disaster. I've seen friends crack under the combined pressure. Canterbury people deserve special support and added services.

I moved from Chch two years ago, and I'm still dealing with anxiety problems stemming from the quakes. I was hoping to reduce my anti-anxiety meds, but yesterday I had a night of nightmares followed by a day of near-crippling anxiety, which I'm sure is a result of Sunday's earthquake. And I wasn't even there for this one!
For those who still live in Chch and are still dealing with insurance issues...I can't imagine what you're going through. I send you all my love.
