  • Field Theory: 5-7 7-6 7-6 3-6 16-14,

Sport is always great for learning new life lessons.

Like finding out that Hitler was a fellow who got things done!

"...Formula One commercial rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone, has stoked up controversy by claiming that Adolf Hitler was a man who "was able to get things done", that democracy has not worked out for Britain... ...Ecclestone... ...said: "In a lot of ways, terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done,..."

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised, since his great chum and head of the FIA Max Mosley is a noted fascist. This is not only because he is the son of Oswald Mosley, the leader of the British Union of Fascists in WWII, but also because Max likes dressing up as a Nazi in sex games with prostitutes, with the hookers playing Jewish camp inmates.

There is something SERIOUSLY fucked up about Formula 1.

  • Hard News: Totally Local,

Have we got a thread for you...

    OMFG! I just read that.

I think our Green friends didn't exactly come out of that thread covering themselves in glory, that is unless a form of Utopian Fascism is your cup of tea (a heads up guys - the governance model of the peaceful Ba'ku in "Star Trek Insurrection" is science fiction).

Tangental but kinda germane to this this thread about trying to control/guide/understand the Napoleonic mob that must always be with us, is it just me or has T.V. News crime coverage gone up another notch on the hysteria index since the Bain trial? And is allowing cameras in court the primary reason? I am sure I am not the only person who thinks the coverage of the Sophie Elliot trial has descended to the level of coarse pornography. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. If so, I want cameras out of the courtrooms now!

  • Island Life: I'm Henry. Fly Me.,

Or Dalek nudists as wii geeks

They might have conquered stairs, but they'll never do Wii. Well, that is how my mind works.

JetStar initially only had two aeroplanes - lose one to a breakdown and there goes 50% of the fleet. I think they've got three now, but it still looks like they were "ambitious for New Zealand" with their assumptions about seviceability, weather, and sortie rate in our climate & airport mix. But still, I don't get what it is with people who book a cheap as chips seat on a notorious budget carrier who has every incentive to over book and bump you then think it the height of urban sophistication and cleverness to breezily sweep into the airport 5 minutes before the gates close.

Turn up at least 90 minutes early, get checked in and enjoy the unfamiliar fun of having absolutely nothing to do by reading a *gasp* book or newspaper or having a proper, leisurely meal.

  • Speaker: About That Telescope,

Sacha: I am recovering from a quick bout of teh Norovius, so such an analogy sprung easily to my keyboard.

What a horrible thing, although quite useful if you are looking at dropping a cheeky 6kg.

  • Speaker: About That Telescope,

Some more fodder for your disapproval, you miserable buggers ;-)

    Hmmmm.

My recent first hand experience of helping a friend deal with the fall out of what constitutes journalistic "ethics" from the HoS (it seems it is ethical at the HoS to be a cynical low-life liar that exploits someone for maximum sensationalist headline value) probably means most people hold the media in utter contempt, and don't feel inclined to give these puffed up self-appointed gatekeepers one iota of the benefit of the doubt when a little bit of the half true manipulative shit they serve up splatters them on the lapel for a change.

Michael Jackson's death sparks Florida bus brawl

"...A fight broke out on a Florida bus when news of Michael Jackson's death sparked debate over whether he should be remembered as a great musical talent, and one passenger was charged with assault, police said on Friday..."

  • Field Theory: Just a Glitch,

More pompous bullshit from the NZRFU! General manager of professional rugby Neil Sorensen (I was at school with this guy! let's just say streaming wasn't his friend...) said this today:

"...the New Zealand Rugby Union had not asked the security to tell its staff to treat pitch invaders with kid gloves.

"Pitch invasions at major rugby events are taken extremely seriously because of the potential risk to players, officials and spectators," Sorensen said.

"That's why we have security protocols in place to strictly enforce and protect the field of play..."

Spectators? Really? How is a single woman on the pitch a threat to the spectators? How exactly does a brutal tackle on a clearly passive woman do anything except sicken a large part of your audience? How can I interpret your pompous defense of the security guards actions as anything other than one boffhead encouraging ex-judicial thuggery by another boffhead?

Neil, you DO know rugby already has a dubious reputation for fostering violence against women?

Neil Sorenson, you win the cock-of-the-week award from me.

  • Michael Jackson: A Life?,

A musical genius who never lived a normal life.

Given his increasingly bizarre habits, financial strife and questional sexual proclivities, maybe going at fifty has been a bit of a relief all round.
