  • Hard News: Need to Know,

I will add that Labour's actions since it has come to light in trying to shield Peters and deny it all look incredibly dodge. Once these things come up they should have been entirely upfront about any peripheral knowledge they did have...

  • Hard News: Need to Know,

Where did the $250k to the Maori Party story come from anyway? It just suddenly seemed to be widely held as the truth?

I'm still not convinced about Labour's massive flaws in this Glenn business - the fact that the party president was asked by someone if they had objection to a possible donation to an unrelated party is not something that needs to be declared/aired etc.
When Peters started denying any such loan in the media then I would certainly have expected questions to be asked of him, but I kinda feel like it wasn't Labour's business to be involved in the media scrum on it. If someone mentioned in passing to the PM "oh yeah, I donated heaps to National last election" (which I imagine happens a bit) do we expect her to investigate-via-media their donations structure?

I guess I can see the "he was her minister and she should have been completely happy about any funding irregularities" bit, but the fact that it had nothing to do with his role as minister and was party related means I'm not sure Labour had a part to play.

Dunno, maybe over-playing devils advocate here.

Presumedly is the percentage of states he'll win?

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Slightly off topic, but can someone please explain the Win Percentage on this site? (2nd graph, on left). http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/

I get the electoral college bit, and the popular vote bit, but how can the win percentage be that much higher than either of them?

  • Up Front: Young and Sort of Free,

It's mandatory for all ISPs to provide filtering. From a user point of view, it's opt-OUT, not opt-in.

    Opt-out is absurd.
And can't you just see the spin now "Oh yeah, well our records show <<insert-generic-enemy-here>> opted-out of internet filtering. Guy loves his child porn obviously"

  • Up Front: Young and Sort of Free,

Can I just confirm here -
    1. The Aussie system will be mandatory? Regardless of whether you have the filter software or not?
    2. And will not list what sites/rationale etc are used for blocking?

I don't have that much problem with an opt-in system of filtering run by the Government where they make clear the things they are filtering.

I can only hope I never work out how to 'press P on the internet' so I can avoid getting punched in the face by bingo-porn.

    I've finally found my epitaph.

It has to be the right type of cycle lane too - the complete ass-up that North Shore made of that Lake Rd cycle lane has probably left a very bad taste in a few mouths.
That page you linked to George shows how it should be done - I really like the one abutting the footpath with half a kerb down to the road, and half a kerb up to the footpath
