You're watching the wrong game Gio, if you'd be following the White Ferns, you'd be delirious!
Even if you have known someone for a long time, telling them you like rugby can be akin to telling them you've been illegally exporting butchered puppy meat and guns to Sudanese militia. "I like rugby" apparently also means that you only drink lager, like V8s, have no idea about feminism, don't like shopping, and possibly own a book by Jeremy Clarkson.
No peace, no chance. I agree. A colleague of mine, a very very earnest and experience policy analyst confided in me that not only did he like rugby league, but he was a season ticket holder and a member of the St George club. I pledged me to secrecy!
As an aside, years ago I worked for Heather Simpson. She of the so-called PC, lesbian cabal that ruled NZ and, amongst other things, sought to destroy sport, jock-by-jock ... is a mad keen rugby fan (though tragically of the Highlanders).
At it's heart, good sport is pure drama. Good guys, bad guys, motifs, history, underdogs, and in the end, one side (hopefully the good guys) triumphing over the other. It's storytelling.
Exactly. Well said.
Which is why <hobby-horse>you should all be following the White Ferns stick to the Poms on Sunday</hobby-horse>

I say you add a run to the required run rate in Women's to get an idea of what the total is like, which makes that 'challenging but well gettable'. IMO.
I understand you to mean when comparing with men's cricket? Makes good sense (and I've not heard that before).
NZ last fell short of a more modest Indian total but I reckon they've got the goods today...

I fear it's me that's to blame.
I know Hayden is a self-proclaimed cricket nOOb and that Emma's an officiando... but, I think, Emma counselled me to send my random obsessive comments about the comp here... I figure Jack's making a slightly different point anyhow...

Thanks Hayden, I feel your aroha.
PAS Alert. White Ferns lose toss, India bat first.
White Ferns captain Tiffen talks up her pace bowlers before the game claiming the North Sydney oval suits them.... and it does. Strike bowlers Devine and Browne (points off for jokes involving gormless British actors) have taken critical wickets including Mithali Raj who came into this game with an average of 89.
The Ferns are on top at the moment, after 33 overs, the Indians are scoring at a little more than threes and have lost five wickets.
But... the Ferns still have to get Anjum Chopra out, she's on 49.
You can follow it the game yourself here

At the risk of being guilty of "banging on about it", can I alert PASers to the opportunity for expat Kiwis in Sydney to support the White Ferns who play India tomorrow at North Sydney oval. I know tickets are cheap, $10, and plentiful. The oval also happens to be a ten minute train ride from city stations (Central, Town Hall and Wynyard). NZ have to win tomorrow to have much of a chance to make it to the final.

White Ferns flog South Africa, will play Engerlund on Saturday!
-
You're subtly telling me to move along aren't you... I confess I chose this thread simply 'cause I wanted to encourage the maximum number of readers to follow the damn cricket!
Satterthwaite, hell yes! Her and McGlashan did well against Australia on the weekend.
-
Sacha, actually you're right but it's not Hayden who's the devotee, it's Emma. If you know any kiwis in Sydney, you should urge them to go to North Sydney oval this Saturday where, it's fairly likely, NZ will be playing England.
-
I know it doesn't really go here - Hayden where are you? - but the NZ Women's Cricket team just posted 250/5 in the first innings of their match against RSA. Scoreboard's here.

should that have been "remediable"? C'mon PASers... you know you want to...
