Interesting - I've never been asked to come in if I leave it longer than three months, even though I do donate quite regularly.
I'm O-, so it's practically like clockwork.

Now, why dont we have roving blood donor depots for this kind of event? Flying ones?
I'm really really serious about this: I have no intention of donating blood on a regular basis (aside from anything else I have the kind of veins that you can view swimming out of needle reach) but in an emergency - happy to give-
I think because all the time is close to a crisis for the blood donor service. I get dragged in as soon as the three months is up from the last time, and they're always desperate for new donors, particularly people who will consider platelet donation at the moment.
Their blood needs from the earthquake probably aren't much higher than any other weekend, ie. always high.

Green is for fine, go. Red is for insanely dangerous, stop. Yellow is 'limited access' - you can go in and out for stuff, but don't stay there.
Having recently watched Treme (took me about five shows to realise that the images shown in the background of the open credits are close up photos of houses with numbers written on them for house checked, number of bodies inside etc), and a while ago When the Levees Break, the whole idea gives me the heebee greebies.

What seems interesting is that I'm not aware of a rush of Chch people just packing up and leaving the city for a week - Dunedin, Nelson, Wellington etc. What would be left behind is just houses and possessions.
Houses and possessions mean very much obviously, they're about a place in the world and people care about trying to look after and looking after others who share their Chch identity?

I hear Brian Edwards has become a born-again Banks supporter after the latter's recent heart-on-his-sleeve events.
Yes-ish, here: http://brianedwardsmedia.co.nz/2010/09/john-banks-a-personal-reassessment/
I'm not sure if one good human act suddenly makes him not a twit the other 364 days of the year.

Of course, the wielders of nukes don't typically bury them kilometers underground.
At Mururoa they dug up to a kilometer under the atoll to set off 147 nuclear bombs over a 20 year period.

Well, if you replace "causes" with "is associated with a greater incidence of", it's actually true.
Surely if you've got cancer, oral sex is going to be on your list of things before you die, so cancer causes oral sex?

Is it me, or neither of the Christchurch bloggers have in fact posted this week so far?
Umm, OK Emma hasn't. David indicated that he was currently writing one.

"It's a comfort, really. We're going through a bit of a rough time with this earthquake, and it's almost like they care. They're showing an interest in people."
Love that quote. "it's almost like they care."
Never can tell with politicians.

"Yes, a few more cracks in our house, but we're okay. We now have electricity (yay); alas no water or sewerage yet. Rain today so taking a break from repairs to write a post for PA. Cheers, D."
I'm not sure I'm impressed or concerned that both PA bloggers based in Christchurch have posted this week. I guess it's the strange nature of the situation - so much stuff to do, but probably lots of things are on hold waiting for building inspectors, school and work to restart, etc.
