  • Busytown: The shakes,

Given current events, I'm not the only one who'd like to see the Bush who swiftly and firmly reminded people that that the 9/11 attacks were not perpetuated by "Islam". Where's he at?

I think that line became inconvenient for future plans, so was dropped in favour of putting "terrorist", "911", "Weapons of Mass Destruction", and "Iraq" in the same sentence without concretely linking them all together.

I've tried to do something vaguely along these lines here, when I last updated my passport I put down my occupation as 'Hero'.

I had a McGillicuddy Serious Party friend who once managed to get her occupation in the electoral roll listed as Lion Tamer.

whoever does win will be congratulated rather than bombed back into the stone age.

    Except England right?

They also had to stick a long knife in their guts and move it left to right to commit suicide, which they would have had to do if they'd ever pretended to be someone else and got caught.

I'm thinking they aren't really a modern role model for administrative and identity security systems.

  • Legal Beagle: Bill Will II,

Earning over 300k would probably put you in a position where you invest it in other ways ; i.e. "business interests".

They would seem to be as good a candidate for blind trusts as MPs, particularly in the area of corporate cases.

  • Hard News: Little pieces of a big picture,

Perhaps the calculation was a little simpler: It's impossible to employ anyone when there isn't actually any work because there's no fucking business.

Also, they'll probably be employing quite a few people over the next year or so to get the place back open, but checkout workers and shelf stockers won't be what they need.

  • Up Front: Day Five,

I think the NZ blood service guarantees the good quality of its blood by two things (spot the person who's had to read the pamphlet about 15 times) - extensive testing of blood, and strict conditions about higher risk groups. Not everything can be tested for, and some people have conditions which only become apparent after the blood would have been used. They reduce the risk of taking 'bad' blood by excluding a bunch of people.

Some things in don't make sense to me at a glance - different standards for males and females having anal sex for example - but maybe that's backed up by risk percentages.

  • Southerly: Refugee Status,

I think the actual instructions are brace yourself in the doorway. Sitting would be good. I think a lot of people might be holding onto someone else (partner, kids), so back to one side of the door and feet pushing against the other side would be smart.

  • Southerly: Refugee Status,

there is conflicting advice all over - I heard an expert on Radio yesterday saying the doorway was the best place to be, and then on TV another expert saying it was a bad place as you can be thrown about and hit...

You could be, but the doorway is to protect you when your house collapsing around you. The least likely thing to stay collapse is the supporting wall that your doorway sits in.

If your house collapses and the worst that comes out of it is that you're alive in there but thrown around and bashed up, you've done bloody well. It's a worst case scenario response.

In a lesser earthquake you'd be fine standing in the middle of the room enjoying the ride, as long as there is no chandalier overhead.

So I wonder if water purification tablets are more useful. Because how many people are going to remember to keep changing the water?

You should do it same time you check your smoke alarms - every six months.
