Back to cyclists and road rage, this sort of thing is really horrifying.
ETA: and this sort of thing, too. A truckie swerving at cyclists? Gotta wonder what’s wrong with people like that.

There was a case in Chch where a man was charged with and convicted of murder for intentionally hitting people with his car. This is rare, and very different from merely having an accident through careless or reckless behaviour.

I was going to throw flowers in the river, but dammit, I'm gonna give them to my Mum. :-)

I am finding it a bit hard to cope with how cold and gray and lowering it is today – just like it was this day last year.
Who would have thought that a slightly rubbish sorta cloudy day would feel ominous? But, yeah. It does.

Islander - how awful for you. Arohanui from me (as always), and I hope better times are just around the corner (or over the hill)!

Hugs and Arohanui to you and everyone else in Christchurch. I’ll be there in a week in person, and I’ll try not to be a stranger.
Thanks Jack. :-) And you better bloody not be. ;-)
I was reading some guff from EQC last night, and find that Woolston, in contrast to Opawa, St Martins, Waltham, Linwood etc., has risen!! By an average of 100mm. Told yous it was an up and coming neighbourhood! :-)

Thanks Hebe. I just had to point out what tomorrow was to my flatmate, who is not troubled about it at all!

I've been having a lot of nightmares lately, which I think is related to the upcoming anniversary. I feel churned-up inside, and that my ability to cope is precarious. I'll be glad to get to the 23rd.
This photo made me cry.
I'm spending tomorrow with family, and I plan to hug them a lot. And any random stranger who looks like they need it. Arohanui, everybody.

Hard News: When "common sense" isn't, in reply to
But you’re saying that anyone who qualified before the current testing regime is a bad driver. That’s just nonsense, and that’s what we want you to show some evidence for.
Show me where I said that. Please. A direct quote. You want to talk about misconstruing someone’s words, you’ve damned well found a doozy and now you’d better put up some proof.
OK:
My point is that there’s a huge focus on getting new drivers ready to be drivers, including a significant increase in the focus on their adherence to “polite” driving behaviour, but it’s going to be decades before everyone who wasn’t subjected to the same level of scrutiny is off the roads. And until that happens, the bad attitudes and impolite behaviour will continue.
…to take just one example. I’m done here.
