  • Field Theory: Worst. Game. Ever.,

Look. Every other intervening 3 years before a World Cup we cream the opposition. Then we fail when it counts. Now we're failing before the WC - could this finally be our year again?

  • Field Theory: Frickin' LZRs,

    1. The rules are there to ensure a level playing field.
    2. Technology is a component in almost all sports, so why NOT swimming?
    3. And it has played a role in swimming (swim suits have changed over the years and this latest version is just a dramatic example).
3a. Technology has even played a role in springboard diving (that IS a sport, thank you Hadyn), with new fibreglass boards appearing about 30 years ago and then five years or so later, they put holes in the ends!
    4. How long before competitors start using tummy tucks and floatation inserts to mimic the suits that have been banned?
    5. Comparisons between stars of different eras compare how they did with their peers, not how they would do today. We compare Mark Spitz with Phelps based on medal tally, longevity and success in achieving records at the time they were competing.

But really, if they're hiding more skin, there's less to perve at. Damn you, new suits!

The erotic has always relied on implication and imagination, otherwise you might as well just grab a 'bump and grind' porn dvd and enjoy the titillation of that! Mmm - or maybe you do?! :)

  • Field Theory: Why is somebody mowing…,

    Hi Haydn
Why is it, every time a sports team has a sub-standard performance (by our nation's pundits' enormous expectations), we endure a round of "collapse of Western Civilisation" stories/too much pampering of our yoof/"SOMEONE MUST PAY" outcries? - think the 2006 Commonwealth Games (or was it 2002) where we had a lot of 4ths - and what did we get? "Not enough bloody mongrel, not enough desire to win in our school system, etc"...! I can tell you (as someone who has been there), athletes DON'T set out to come 4th.

The All Blacks (and Black Caps, but perhaps not the Silver Ferns) all stumble in their initial games before the team begins to play as a team. The ABs played with several key players missing and won - eventually and somewhat unconvincingly but FFS surely there's the building period to get through?

I caught up with Graham Lowe (I'm not the League MG but have encountered Graham in the past) the other night and he thinks the same thing - there's not enough pride in the AB jersey, the professional era has ruined our players and the game and they're all just too soft.

Personally, I get really sick of the bleating.

    Welcome your thoughts.

Man - I feel sorry for you. The old saying "I've got my health" is never more prominent than when you don't.

We need to have at least two candidates to avoid the impression that PAS is rigging this thing.
    (Although we are.)

    Oh. Okay.

Here's an example, not that it'll ever get built...

    Wow - that's great! Here's hoping...

Has anybody actually MET John Duthie? Why is this man in charge of City Development?

Does anyone think Princess Wharf works as a public space? Then why are we replicating it?

And what is it in the Wellington water that makes politicians go - "Wa-HEY, have I got a GREAT IDEA for Auckland!..."?

And why do they only give us two weeks to think about it?

And why do these great ideas fall outside of any co-ordinated, well thought-through plan for Auckland?

And why is it that we need a "Party Central"? What's wrong with the bars and precincts we already have? - let's spread the love (and spending) amongst the excellent bars and restaurants already in existence and needing the dosh, rather than open up a new area, with new bars and restaurants that will suck the business away from the existing operators and then be a wasteland when the RWC is finished.

FFS - here we go again. Around the world, leaders build edifices to art and architecture and triumphs and history (and, admittedly, to themselves a bit too much). Here we build edifices to sport and partying. Does anyone else see a tragic lack of vision happening here?
