some positive actions and interfaces to occur at that point

The pro-choice movement should adopt this language to liberalise laws. The pro-lifers won't even know what's going on.

  • Somebody Had To Say This....,

The possibilities for giving people crazy ideas about New Zealand are probably endless.

Just turn up and ask where you can stall your sheep and take it downhill from there.

    1. 'Twat' is a much worse word over there than it is here. (Not that you would ever use such a word anyway, Lucy. And nor did I. Ahem.)

See also: tramping. Does not mean the same thing in America as hiking. If you say you're taking your sheep tramping, the humour possibilities are practically endless.

  • Field Theory: The Wonder Years,

If I tweeted everytime Ian Smith annoyed me, I wouldn't get to watch the game.

I've found his analysis pretty good - seems to have a cricketing brain for all aspects of the game. I can even deal with him as sideline commentator at the rugby (though the bar being set there of being better than Murray Mexted isn't very high).

Grant Fox is also good with analysis on the rugby.

  • Field Theory: The Wonder Years,

I will admit, that when Taylor went out, I thought the game was over. In fact, when Franklin came in at #5, I thought the game was over.

Franklin seems destined to be a good batter at domestic level, and then almost never repeat the feat at international level. 53 ODI innings with a high score in the 40s. It's not like NZ tailenders don't often end up coming in early enough for them to score. How he's ahead of Oram I struggle to understand.

Incidentally, I got a bit annoyed (enough to tweet it) at Ian Smith calling Bond an 'unlikely hero'. Aside from the, you know, bowling he has done that with the bat before.

His highest ODI score (31) was an innings where NZ batted first and he got the runs in 15 balls. 3 sixes, two fours.

One of the sixes went about 20 rows back at Eden Park. It was big.

(NZ lost the game on the second to last ball, but you get that when you score 199 in 50 overs and Vincent takes 53 runs off 137 balls)

  • Hard News: Dropping the Ball,

I can buy there being an argument for there being rugby on two channels live at once - once on an English speaking channel, and simulcast on another channel in partial or full Maori. Sounds good.

Aren't we getting some games on umpteen channels at once? There is a rumour going around that some people actually don't care about rugby and might want to watch something else...

The classical liberal in me says "Play the ball, not the man. Whatever he does in his private life is private.

I find it takes on new perspective once you consider that it's harassing a person for being gay/bi/other not entirely straight classifications, and struggling with it, as many other people do.

  • Field Theory: And like that, it's gone,

Do the tracks always go one way? I'd hope they rotate.

Speed skating is an anti-clockwise sport (as is running and cycling I note, I wonder if there's a reason for that).

Normal ice skates are cut both ways, so they have two edges, one on each side. Speed skates have only one sharp edge, they'd tend to fall over a lot more going clockwise.

New Zealand has a community of curlers, I've been led to believe on the basis of Mainland cheese ads. I'd like to give it a try!

Curling is great fun - particularly after a wee dram and with a silly hat on your head. It's got a whole culture to it, and once you get into the yelling ("HARD!!!) and the sweeping it's a fun night out. It's good down here - Dunedin and Naseby both have dedicated curling rinks. There's curling in Auckland, not sure about Chch.

I was going to bring up Michael Lhaws, I swear I was.

Serves you right for swallowing him in the first place. Tastes bad going both down and back up.

Up to you who you offend, but the implication that what the journalists were wearing is important to know when a guy has been exposing himself to them and groping them, makes you look silly.

I'm going to guess that the reasons for whatever he did has a lot more to do with him and his state than whether they were wearing low cut blouses.

She was no more a victim than any kid who decides to go for a burn up and wipes out. Really.

I too found Deborah's comment... unwise I guess. It's like punishing someone for being imperfect and making bad decisions.

Diana wasn't driving the car, so to some extent at least she wasn't the architect of her own demise - the driver and the photographers chasing on the bikes were also involved.
