Another cricketing memory, being denied by Paddles for an autograph when I was about 7 at Mclean park after a test match. Selfish prick!
I had a similar thing at a similar age. I saw him at some event in Tauranga and wanted an autograph (though I suspect my Dad wanted it more) but he looked way too angry (Hadlee not my Dad) so I didn't even get to the asking.

I will admit, that when Taylor went out, I thought the game was over. In fact, when Franklin came in at #5, I thought the game was over.
Franklin seems destined to be a good batter at domestic level, and then almost never repeat the feat at international level. 53 ODI innings with a high score in the 40s. It's not like NZ tailenders don't often end up coming in early enough for them to score. How he's ahead of Oram I struggle to understand.
Incidentally, I got a bit annoyed (enough to tweet it) at Ian Smith calling Bond an 'unlikely hero'. Aside from the, you know, bowling he has done that with the bat before.
His highest ODI score (31) was an innings where NZ batted first and he got the runs in 15 balls. 3 sixes, two fours.
One of the sixes went about 20 rows back at Eden Park. It was big.
(NZ lost the game on the second to last ball, but you get that when you score 199 in 50 overs and Vincent takes 53 runs off 137 balls)

There's an interview on Cricinfo somewhere with Jeremy Coney where they ask him what captaining Hadlee was like, and he's... not entirely positive.
There is some seriously bad hair in the Aussie team. (cough Bollinger cough).
And Harris. This current crop is starting to make Andrew Symonds look attractive. (True story: I couldn't remember his name, so I googled 'cricket aussie boofhead', and he was the top two hits.)
Speaking of Harris, you know they retire jersey numbers of great players? Can we do the same thing with surnames? Because this is just bloody confusing.

Haha, agreed, at one point they said something about "Harris coming on to bowl" and I had a split second moment of "Jesus, will that man ever give up?" before I realised they were talking about Australian Harris.

If I tweeted everytime Ian Smith annoyed me, I wouldn't get to watch the game. He shits me at an astonishingly high level.
Really? I think he's one of the better ones.
Especially in comparison to having to listen to Craig McMillan labour a single dubious point for five minutes a stretch.

I've had a quick look at his stats, but I can't find the innings of which I speak. Where is my intern when I need one? Hadyn, can I borrow Naly?
He once came in as the no 11 batsman and flayed it to all corners of the ground in a match against England, I think, but we still lost.
The only other thing I can recall is that I watched it at Pete Darlington's place in Nelson.

Really? I think he's one of the better ones.
I find him very negative. He wants the BCs to do well, and sets very high standards for them. These are standards we'll need to achieve to do well, but when things go wrong, I think he goes overboard bagging the team.
I like him better when he's not calling New Zealand matches.

Meh, I don't require all my commentators, especially in cricket, where they have a lot of time to fill, to be unbiased. Articulate and interesting would be nice though.

Also nice to hear the commentators pause as they try to figure out the chant and then realise they should probably try to talk over it.

I've found his analysis pretty good - seems to have a cricketing brain for all aspects of the game. I can even deal with him as sideline commentator at the rugby (though the bar being set there of being better than Murray Mexted isn't very high).
Grant Fox is also good with analysis on the rugby.

But apart from that, a great game. One-dayers that come down to the last two overs should be a mandatory childhood experience, like skinned knees and endless summer holidays.
