PM forces disabled man to walk
That's stretching the truth a long way to label the story with that headline, given that in the text they say that the PM knew nothing about it.
And a non-story. Other countries block off whole city blocks for their heads of state. Two car parks?

Sidebottom may not have been as near to the ball as the batsman (who was practically standing on it), but he was one of the best placed to move to the ball.
Actually having seen it again on the sports new last night, I don't have a problem with what Sidebottom did. The ball was right there, and he was probably the closest fielder. There was no indication that he deliberately got in Elliot's way, just that he was going for the ball.

I really don't see in cases like this why they just don't institute a contact rule: cricket is a non-contact sport, contact between runner and fielder/bowler makes it a dead ball. It'd save fuss in cases like this and I can't think of an easy way for anyone to use it to their advantage.
I presume they don't have such a rule, as if the bowler was trying to field the ball (as compared to just his follow through), he shouldn't be obliged to get out of the way. But neither should the batsman. In that instance if there was a collision, I could understand the batsman ending up out.
But this looked to me like Sidebottom running where he shouldn't have been, and not watching the batsman, who surely had right of way given that the ball was no where near the bowler.

Craig, it's *Tim Gunn* who tells people to clear out their workspaces. All of your arguments are therefore invalidated!
And people say history degrees don't get you anywhere in life ;)

Yes, and anyone who wants to talk about New Zealand's "bloody history" might want dial back the hyperbole generator and widen their vision a little.
I must have missed a turn signal. Key doesn't think we had a civil war or a lot of fighting internally, and now New Zealand hasn't had a bloody history?
Did someone invalidate my years of studying history while I wasn't looking?

I've always thought that Craig was a cheerleader for his own team. Whether that is worse or better than the National Party...

No where does teh report measure teh benifits of illicit drugs either..
Apparently it doesn't improve typing ;)
This BERL DRUG HARM report is absolute evidence that Accountants should stay away from Drugs.
I would have put them top of my list for people who need them actually.

Although a pig that broke into our property once was lucky I didn't have a gun handy.
Mmm, bacon.
Oh no, I looked at the photo, too cute to kill.
Apropos nothing in particular, I discovered there's lots of Pohutukawa in the southern beach suburbs of Perth. Lovely that. I've no idea what the WA locals call them.
"New Zealand Christmas Trees". Or at least that's why my parents found them named as when they went trying to buy one in Perth.

just imagine a "National Party Field Day" ad with lots of farmers driving up in hummers and jags, the back seats full of cheese - cheese on toast, cheese rolls, wine and cheese, big blocks of cheese on spits over a fire ....
An image that is asking for highway robbery to return. Seriously, the amount of money that I could get for selling a ute full of cheese.

Well if that was a condition of voting we may as well not have elections....
Well, a referendum and voting for a representative for the next 3 years are completely different things.
You want non-binding referendums on actual legislation?
I think if you have referendum, they should be binding. Exactly what they should and shouldn't cover, and how they should come about in that instance, is another question, but at least then we'd know that the people voting actually had power. So far, for the all the CIR we've seen, they've largely felt like a waste of time to me. I think it's a falsehood to give everyone an option, and then say thanks and do what you want anyway. At the very least we should either do them properly, or stop doing them and save some trees.
