  • Random Play: Following The Songlines,

But what was of as much interest to me in the run-up to this concert was just how many people responded in a negative or dismissive way when I said I was going.

I care not about to what people go to.

But paying $140? That's top money for a concert, and for that I'd want to see something pretty special.

    Led Zeppelin or something.

The civil case seems crazy to me. How you can pursue a civil case for largely the same thing that a person has been found not guilty of, I don't know.

How the jury found that civil case proved. Weird.

    It can only get funnier.

    You'd think.

But let me assure you, no it doesn't.

This in answer to the inevitable letter to the paper whinning about the christ being taken out of Christmas

I always look at this as a theological dispute. Take the Christ out, you're left with mass. So Catholics, happy. Others, not so much.

Paranoia. AYERGH! I had completely buried that in some dark recess of my brain.

    Commie Mutant Traitor.

I have this life thing, wierd though it might seem. Also, I dislike science fiction, linux, darkwave and a plasma telly is #32767 on my shopping list.

Your shopping list goes to 5 figures? *cough*Geek*sneeze*

    Bloody non-Gamers.

Watch the glee with which a bunch of gamers find themselves, for once, not feeling like the losers in the room, and mocking the non-gamers.

    It's like feeding nerdy piranhas.

  • Field Theory: Intense Uniformity,

So you would suggest to the Blues that they shouldn't play in blue?

You could do a top which still had blue parts on it - shoulders, sides, while being primarily white.

I fail to see the point of an alternative top which is largely the same colour as the primary top.

No it isn't. It's a foreign bird drawn by a foreigner in a foreign country. What's wrong with the morose, antisocial, endangered but local Yellow-eyed penguin? Just how often does a Rockhopper wash up on Dunedin's beaches, take a quick look around and then bugger off again? Is this "Dunedin" Penguins franchise also planning to relocate?

The Southern Rockhopper isn't a foreign bird. They don't live on the mainland, but they do live on various islands around NZ.

And the Yellow Eyed Penguin is an immigrant to NZ. It moved in here after a local penguin died out about 500 years ago. And some effort was put into making a yellow-eyed version, but it just didn't work. It's not an animal which matches our vision.

The Dunedin Penguins isn't a franchise, it's a club, so will never relocate. The franchise (which could relocate), is the Dunedin Thunder. They play in the National League.

And that goes double for strawberries.

The birds feasting on my strawberry patch just as they turn ripe are evidence of this.

An error message from that IRB rankings page:

It's like yoda coded the page.

Incorporate the red eyes and blood-dripping mouth into your pre-game haka while you're at it.

Ice Blacks doing the haka against Ireland last year:

    Yes, child-free.

Yup, it looked that way. Some battles are worth fighting, others, not so much. Me, I just reallocated money that my son would get anyway for various stuff, and instead of getting more birthday present, he got a hoodie with his team's brand on it.
