  • LegBreak,

    Well said Bart,

We’ve got an overdue changing of the guard in the NZ team, just finished an embarrassing loss v Aus, about to start a very important series in terms of international credibility and we get…

    …bloody uniforms.

BTW, where is Akl cricket going when they shut down the Outer Oval?

  • Mike Graham,

where is Akl cricket going when they shut down the Outer Oval?

I believe it's Colin Maiden Park, Merton Rd (Home of Auckland University CC).

  • Bart Janssen,

BTW, where is Akl cricket going when they shut down the Outer Oval?

From the Annual report of Auckland Cricket

under the agreed design for the redevelopment of Eden Park, the Outer Oval will be retained as the home of our domestic cricket into the long term future, unless Auckland Cricket agrees otherwise

    and

...for the 09/10 and 10/11 seasons...The interim venue we have chosen for our temporary relocation is University Oval at Merton Road

  • LegBreak,

So that’s now Auckland, Canterbury and Otago who have all been bullied out of their traditional, shared, home grounds.

    Only Napier remains…

  • Hadyn Green,

But wouldn't it make sense to do this at the draft stage rather than, after launch?...One of the first considerations was "which teams do we regularly play against, what colours should we therefore avoid?

So you would suggest to the Blues that they shouldn't play in blue?

    DAMMIT it's cricket season!

Mmmm and it's been ever so exciting. And there was a post here by Emma on cricket not so long ago.

  • Richard Irvine,

    Kyle that penguin is CLASS.

Re the uniforms: Adidas - if you're reading, and we know you are, how about some nice retro jerseys? Sure, we won't 'update' them every two years, but at least you'll open up that difficult-to-crack 'bah humbug' market.

Nice access to the source, though, Hadyn.

No it isn't. It's a foreign bird drawn by a foreigner in a foreign country. What's wrong with the morose, antisocial, endangered but local Yellow-eyed penguin? Just how often does a Rockhopper wash up on Dunedin's beaches, take a quick look around and then bugger off again? Is this "Dunedin" Penguins franchise also planning to relocate?
(This particular bah humbug market is going to take some cracking...)

nothing better than throw-backs. But I'd also like jersey patches. My BoP jersey has a B&I Lions patch on it.

  • Kyle Matthews,

So you would suggest to the Blues that they shouldn't play in blue?

You could do a top which still had blue parts on it - shoulders, sides, while being primarily white.

I fail to see the point of an alternative top which is largely the same colour as the primary top.

The Southern Rockhopper isn't a foreign bird. They don't live on the mainland, but they do live on various islands around NZ.

And the Yellow Eyed Penguin is an immigrant to NZ. It moved in here after a local penguin died out about 500 years ago. And some effort was put into making a yellow-eyed version, but it just didn't work. It's not an animal which matches our vision.

The Dunedin Penguins isn't a franchise, it's a club, so will never relocate. The franchise (which could relocate), is the Dunedin Thunder. They play in the National League.

  • Tom Semmens,

Speaking of retro, I've always thought Ranfurly Shield games should be played in "retro" (i.e. pre-professional era) strips. You know, unadorned blue and white hoops for Auckland, Black and White for Hawkes Bay, dark navy blue with a big gold "O" for Otago, that sort of thing. Just to reinforce theheritage of the log 'o' wood...

  • Hadyn Green,

Haydn, you just wrote a very long post about mens' clothes. Just thought you should know.

I know. What's worse is this weekend I couldn't help but stare at people who were wearing sports jerseys with a critical eye. This included glaring at a small child in a New England Patriots jersey
