Maybe the concept is that non-criminal governments *are* entitled to secrecy, but the US is criminal and has lost that protection.
In a world where anyone with a memory stick can copy information that would formerly have required the removal of cumbersome physical files, the only way a government, be it the US, NZ or other states, can keep its secrets is if those with the access actually agree with the government. Obviously the vast US military-security complex is such that they can never have that confidence.

I don't think the Ireland thing is at all OT.
Maybe Ireland is the place where people will realise they have a choice and can take the money back from the rich, who stole it, rather than letting the rich screw them over once more.
After all, they fought for hundreds of years to get rid of British rule. Maybe they'll fight again and get rid of capitalist rule.

If you want a constructive alternative, I've always favoured a Universal Basic Income. That, and a maximum wage of around $300k a year

And in other news, North Korea is shelling South Korea.
Wouldn't it be ironic if NZ gets wiped out in a nuclear war, excepting the miners who miraculously survive and emerge blinking to the surface, only to find nobody else left alive.

the horrors
involved in getting engineers to coordinate or
communicate anything .They did a fairly reasonable job of putting men on the moon / building the railways / making an atomic bomb / etc.

Standard out of the box narrative, innit?
For one thing, most people in Greymouth wouldn't know anyone working at the mine and might well go for a beer regardless, but the story doesn't fit that way.

Because drivers deliberately set out to run people over and can only be frightened out of that behavior by increasingly dire punishments, escalating as existing condign levels of punishment fail?
I've never seen any evidence that driver behaviour is actually modulated by the consequences of accidents. In many developing countries, drivers who kill a pedestrian or cow are likely to be lynched. That doesn't seem to make them drive any better.
Also NZ has a high perception of road danger that is largely due to media reporting. In Europe or the US, an accident needs to involve the immolation of a minibus full of schoolkids to make the national news. Here, fall of a bike and graze your knee and you'll make the front page.

picturing Prince
William engaged in sexual congressI believe there's a body of slash around this. Given his schooling and alleged proclivities, it might be more factual than the usual Harry /Draco couplings.

When Prince Andrew was in the Navy. he had Fergie following on a fleet refueler, on which she had snagged the skippers cabin. That contributed to his acquiring a four letter nickname in the RN. That, and insisting that officers senior to him called him "sir".

So the order of precedence goes something like:
pikie < chav < commoner < posh git < royal < Warner's exec?
