@Sacha: <Any beef should be with the government who directed the collection of this information knowing full well what might be done with it.>
Precisely ... and Banks wins again.

I think when we in Godzone can produce a spectacle half as good, maybe we'll have the right to crticise?

<The slightly humdrum closing ceremony ...>
We must have been watching something else. Check this:

Met up with Pete Terry, the organiser of Nambassa, a couple of months ago. He now lives in Oz and is creating a website <http://www.nambassa.com/> for anyone fancying a nostalgia trip.

Thank you for that clip, Joe. Brought back some fond memories of days gone by. Who will ever forget Levon's comment in Scorses's doco ... "after 16 years on the road and playing the night before to thousands ... next morning we didn't have the price of breakfast." (or words to that effect).

@HORansome <It's not as if its the old guard, either; frankly, the Teapot Scandal and the Urewera Trial can also be seen as the police trying to say "We were right, really, even if other authorities have good grounds to say we were wrong.">
To which you can add the Bain and Scott Watson travesties.
Is it a fearful public putting pressure on the media for a quick result that causes the police to finger the poor sod who can't produce an alibi? -
Speaking of "festivals I have loved", some of your readers may be old enough to remember the grand-daddy of 'em all -- http://www.nambassa.com/

The Herald really should give up the pretence and change it's banner to "The Official Propaganda Sheet of the NZ National Party" -- coupe of weeks ago it openly advised Epsom voters to cast their lot in with Banks (or miss out on an extra bunch of MPs). NZH's monopoly makes a mockery of Craig's claim of a free press.

To think ... if McDonald's penalty kick had been a couple of feet to the right, Key would have been sunk. The blame for the loss, not to mention the huge expense to the taxpayer, would have fallen on his shoulders. As it is, it looks like our power companies will be in Chinese hands before we can say 'mum and dad investors'.

<quote>It was a good start, but today, by promising pain in the next term ... English showed he might actually be committed to reducing the debt, rather than just promising that future Governments will do it.>
... by selling off state assets?
