MySky strangeness?
-
Anyone else's MySky box been acting oddly lately? Ours has been briefly losing the ability to Live Pause (sometimes even after a hard restart), displaying a red light when it's not recording anything, not letting us view a programme we've recorded and just watched from the start again (we wanted to check who wrote this week's Outrageous Fortune episode). Probably some other stuff too.
Has there been an over-the-air upgrade that's destabilised things?

No weirdness here to report, apart from the usual issues that seem to creep in when the box hasn't been rebooted for a while (forgetting to record shows, etc). Are they able to upgrade themselves "over the air" or does it require a phone connection?

Geez, I don't even suffer from "usual issues". The only glitch I've experienced, a few months ago, was when watching a show live, as well as recording it. Live pausing then resuming led to a malfunction and I lost the whole ep from the hard drive. But it was only the penultimate ep of Donald Trump's Apprentice so I wasn't tooooo upset. I reported it to Sky and they told me it was a known glitch and that their IT programmers were looking into it.
Gawd how I love my MySky. Thanks, Cass, for talking me into it. (BTW, James Griffin wrote this week's O.F. I think). Loved those NZ porn titles.

Ditto for me with My Sky issues.
I've had monthly lockups that have required unplugging from the wall since I got it in Jan, but there has been more some new bugs since just before Labour Weekend.
I recall they did some upgrade didn't they which required you to reset all your series link choices as it would have one episode listed but then would also record anonymously the replay (e.g. The Soup)
Over Labour Weekend it stayed red continuously for 12 hours - locked on one programme and had to delete the episode to "unlock" the unit.
Most other times it won't let me live pause programmes or record them... and all you can do is hard reboot as it were...
But I can cope with most of this... cos' I just love series link, live pause, and fast forward.
My daughter has a "library" of Dora and Hi-5 and I am going through my second screening of the excellent BBC "Soul Deep"...

They are great devices. I've had no glitches so far. That i've noticed.
i'd like to plug for about 10 times as much storage though, I can't believe how quickly I filled up 90% of the hard drive.

That's about the time we started noticing misbehaviour. We've also had the wrong show being recorded, stuck-on-red, etc. It seems to have settled down now.
And yes, AFAIK, the boxes can be, and are, upgraded over the air.

Cunning. But given how long this model of set-top box has been in operation overseas, you'd expect a few more of the bugs to be ironed out, no? Still, would never go back...

When ours was installed, the technician neglected to set up our adult content pin number, and so in the first week or so I recorded a couple of R18 movies which we subsequently could not view.
I rang Sky a few weeks later & they set it up as we spoke on the phone - there was a noticable shimmer (like that de ja vu scene in the Matrix) when the Sky person probably pressed "enter".
i was impressed. My new pin number worked straight away!
