That’s right, we’re very good at playing with ourselves.

  • Danielle,

    Here’s another:

We practice all our moves and memorise the stupid rules.

(I am a big old nerd about Liz Phair. I could even do this for whitechocolatespaceegg. It’s underrated!)

  • Idiot Savant,

Now all we need is some cheerleaders… Any volunteers, chaps?

This is New Zealand. Rugby players do their own cheerleading – what else is the haka for?

  • Robyn Gallagher,

If Liz Phair is going to be our musical inspiration, I think we will need cheerleaders.

I just found this live performance of Fuck and Run from 1995 on YewChoob and now I’m really really bummed out.

This is the blues for middle-class white girls.

I want all that stupid shit like letters and sodas.

  • Tze Ming Mok,

I always thought it was “fetters and sodas.”

    Feta and soda, anyone?

(I love the reclaimation of this thread)

  • merc,

Are rugby players allowed to discuss feta and soda?

  • kmont,

Oh and I want this thread to stay alive until we have a full bloody rugby team. There have been l lot of people signing up to PA System to discuss rugby so………

lets flush out some non-rugby lurkers????? I don’t want to be sexist by insisting that they be wimmin ; ) however they could at least pretend for the sake of this thread. Possibly some knowledge of Liz Phair could be useful in joining the team.

    Whadda ya reckon?

Who knew that watching rugby put you on a continuum with wifebeaters, virulent nationalists and people who don’t care about Myanmar.

Hardly, light up. We are just playing in puddles after all this misery and rugger obsession this week.

Well maybe if you symbolically emasculate yourself (by say, crying in public)and swot up on Liz Phair….

We definitely need a poet on the team. Every game we play can have a specially written poem to mark the occasion.

And sometimes, the poetry can be the game itself. Whoa.

Due to work filters I cannot post youtube clips but there is a Philosopher’s rugby match vid floating around out there. Kind of funny in a geeky way.

Sure, its a continuum. Of course, we’re at this end, and that lot are at the other end…

Fair enough. I was referring to the cunning of Tze Ming’s post, rather than the entertaining comments. Peace out.

Ae, you’re right. Writing poetry to order produces such abominations as the Poet Laureate’s ”rap” for Prince William’s 21st birthday, which was hilariously reviewed in the Guardian.

  • Kyle Matthews,

I think all of the disenfranchised should be eligible for the team, like gurly crybabies

Well according to Tom, that would put Dan Carter in the team. And I’m sure most of the team won’t complain about that, for numerous reasons, but some people are going to be saying ‘Ring In!’.

This is not meant to interfere with the thread but I was trying to find the philosopher’s rugby game without luck and stumbled upon this.
