I fail to see what parallels may be drawn between the tribulations suffered by Gore and this outstanding act of sophistry.
I think Hansard will bear this one out.
"If you want to blame anyone for this, blame me. I am perfectly happy to take responsibility for it."
The context is that Blair denies the need for an investigation into bribes to a Saudi Prince processed by the MOD and then hidden from international scrutiny. His argument is that it is against the national interest to investigate such dishonesty.

Note: Blair has yet to actually describe these actions as dishonest.

WH,
Hey 81stcolumn,
I never said the man was perfect. I say that Blair is basically good.

I agree with almost every word Toynbee has said here.
What does the public think? Every poll shows its deep revulsion against the press, with journalists ranking lower than politicians. [...]
It's a state of mind that drives out balanced analysis: unless there's a "crisis", it won't make the cut. This isn't new or special to the era of a Labour government, but it's got worse and it's done without reader or audience research which might reveal people are equally interested in stories of improvement - or at least of complexity.

Late I know. Loved this from a Brit. The 3 concerns of the UK electorate
Leaving Iraq and N. Ireland aside, there are essentially three thing that the British electorate cares about:
1) The NHS/Health System
2) Public transport - the railways and the tube
3) SchoolsHealth Transport Schools. Just like here.
Here are the rules of popular government. Not necessarily good government but popular government.
1 All the people want is the old, sick, poor and young cared for. The rest are too busy working.
2 Most don't care about the detail. We're too busy working. Or worrying about the old, sick, poor or young. Sorry, sometimes all anyone reads are the headlines. BLAIR SCREWS UP. OK then.
3 But make sure you do deal with the detail because a lot of people (bloggers et al) are working on finding the detail you missed. That most people can't fathom. But they do fathom BLAIR SCREWS UP. And believe it. Even in a Murdoch paper.
4 The rule of locality. Make sure everyone at home is happy before you try to fix anyone elses home.
Sometimes the French almost seem to make sense. Apart from the nothing works thing.
