Hamish, this is absolutely terrific writing, mate.

With that catalogue, it certainly appears to be an unhealthy past-time. I agree with your sentiments however.

Good call Hamish. In some ways heighted by the fact that it now seems certain he WAS murdered... watch the media circus intensify further.
-
It is a shame that this will overshadow the tournament, but it shouldn't be any surprise that this is a legitimate media sensation.
A leading coach murdered after his team is massively upset? - A more cautionary tale of taking sport too seriously could not be scripted.
It reminds me of the Pablo Escabar killing in Colombia - something that makes sport-lovers stop and think about how important the game really is.
Poor buggar.
-
Hamish, you write better and more thoughtfully than a great many sports journalists. Nice.

Well said.

"His last 24 hours on Earth were perhaps the most disappointing he experienced."
I think it's safe to say Woolmer felt a little stronger than that about his last moments, especially towards the end.

Thankyou Russell, Dan, Eddie and Hamish (top name that) for your lovely comments. I shall treasure them as Stu Gillespie must treasure his one test cap.

3410,
Richard,
You mean Andrés Escobar. Pablo Escobar was the head of Colombia's Medellin cocaine cartel. -
Hi Hamish,
Have tried to track you down a few times over the last couple of years...wonder if this will work. Went to an ex- knoxie's wedding yesterday and had more knoxies round for lunch today.Someone mentioned that you were going into politics...we maligned you by suggesting you'd probably be a National candidate..!
Am living in Auckland - got three kids under 9 - and am also singing with the NZ Opera Co. a bit and free-lancing as a concert singer too. Would love to catch up sometime...Emma

Emma,
I'm not sure if Hamish reads here regularly, but he does write a regular cricket blog on stuff.co.nz, so you should try there.
