"I like Interstellar and you don't. Tough."
You're going to have to picture the kind of "it's funny because it's true" grin on my face that's physically painful because it happens so seldom. I'm certainly looking forward to another Film Society season where Jimmy's going to strongly like some things I can't stand (and vice versa) because he's got the trick of holding -- and defending -- a strong critical opinion without being a cock about it.

Excellent reviews Jimmy, thanks. I also loved Boxtrolls (as did my 8 year old boy). We have the Blu-ray, and I predict years of happy rewatching. Haven’t seen Birman yet, but am looking forward to it a lot. One movie you didn’t mention was Boyhood. I loved the audacity of this and the real raging of the characters. Made me cry and has haunted me since I saw it.
I look forward to your next lot of reviews.

Nightcrawler is the only movie here I saw and it certainly rates as a highlight of 2014. But it was such a good year for cinema, also August, Ossage County, Calvary, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Mr Turner, Locke (especially after seeing Boyhood the week before). Thanks Jimmy.

Dark Horse, for me.

Thank you, Jimmy! Great reviews - really like how you analyse why a movie is good, rather than just regurgitating the plot as reviewers so often do. It's given me some very tempting leads for my catch-up movie watching...

Thank you for all liking my new video. Though, I just know I may have left at least two film out that I forgot about. LOL.
I actually wanted to make this video earlier in the month, but I just didn't have the energy because of how bloody hot it's been. Seriously, It hasn't been until recently that it's finally cooled down to just low enough for me to feel like doing some of my own casual work.Anyway, glad you all like my video, and here's to another fine year of movies.
See ya.

Rosemary McDonald, in reply to
I haven't watched a movie in ages, Jimmy, for various reasons.
One reason would be total disillusionment with films in general...(and telly)...is there nothing new? Different?
Your enthusiasm for your "best choices " makes me think I should make more of an effort.
My favourites, from years past? "The Abyss."..directors cut...awesomeness incarnate...and
"Smilla's Feeling for Snow".
I am looking forward to watching the Swedish "Millennium" series, because I've just read the books.
Keep it up. -

I may have left at least two film out that I forgot about.
Can we safely assume that means they weren't quite as awesome as the ones you could remember to include?

Thank you for your recommendations.
We only ever watch movies now on blu-ray at home - the pause button, the big screen, the glass of wine and the absence of that annoying idiot three rows back - has meant our days of going to the cinema are over.
So having your thoughts on movies to buy and your reasons helps a lot. Who knew a movie reviewer could actually give their reasons for an opinion!!!

Agree totally with yourBirdman review Jimmy. Still trying to work out why it was so good and maybe another viewing would help.
Not for those who enjoy trite endings. -
Thanks Jimmy. I know, how great was Night Crawler ! Just such a great psycho was the lead character. Kind of interesting too how it exaggerated but played on the utterly bleak dismal aspect of ratings driven tv news. Interstellar - it did have a few good psychedelic moments, but just too cluttered for me, and too much sci fi space babble but hey - cheers.
