  • Don Christie,

most importantly to John Flack for just laughing out loud at my 'I'll understand if you want to leave me' discussion

    Good on you John.

  • Sylvie Zlami,

An amazing story, exquisitely told and inspirational - in every respect.
David, I take my hat off to you!

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

It sounds like a good venue for sight specific art.

Need a couple of days but am working on it. Will know something by Tues. Hoping Russell has ideas also. ( Sent him an email with regard to where I am up to) Anyway so far, is promising :)

  • Christopher Dempsey,

I could have a chat around the traps at Elam at University of Auckland... can't guarantee anything but at least I can get the idea into some people's head...

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Noted. I am writing a list as it is created but I am sure we will make it so. You can be on the list for working on it.:)

  • MarkL,

Thank you so much for this David. I have just come back from reading this to my father who is at rehab plus, which luckily for him has had a major face lift since you were there. He hung on to every word, closing his eyes to concentrate as much as he could, only opening them to tell me how true some parts were. The first part let him know that he is not alone in what has been happening to him over the last 7 weeks. The last part and your beautiful writing let him know that things will always get better. This really would make for an inspirational book.

  • Russell Brown,

Not quite ready to get up-and-organising yet, but David made two comments:

    - Nothing too visually busy or jarring. There's enough noise as it is.

    - Don't just think about the walls. People in rehab spend a lot of time on their backs too.

Personally, I think there's real scope for involving local Flickr communities -- postcards from outside those four walls would surely be great. Does anyone have an in on photographical enlargements?

Sofie, I have a more ambitious idea, but I'll email you about it in a day or two

  • Matthew Poole,

All I can really say is, commence frantic insertion of ditto marks throughout the thread. That's amazingly written, as one always expects of you, David. As others have said, thank you for making it. That includes thank you for not succeeding with your efforts to not make it!

My father didn't survive his stroke, 15 years ago in March this year. He's now been dead over half my life, which at the time felt like quite a surreal milestone to pass. Never any suggestion of recovery for him (life support discontinued 18 hours after he collapsed), so I know just how much these events are about luck - luck of timing, luck of the location of the bleed.

Kia kaha. I hope your body recovers to the extent to which your mind clearly has.

PS: You have my permission to dredge up those fantasies to which you alluded so many years ago on Usenet, if it'll help :P

  • Russell Brown,

Heads-up: Just after 10am on NatRad, David is talking to Kathryn Ryan about the road back from his stroke.
