  • Malcolm Ibell,

You're on Sam.... and there are still places available too.

Sophie, I have both Mayan & Aztec themed tattoos which I spend all summer trying to protect from the sun... oh, the irony :)

Oh, and Emma, maybe the next book should be launched at at the Civic?

Both venerable ladies with rather stunning frontages - highly appropriate.

    Oh d'oh !!!

I'm sorry Sofie. And I so hate it when people leave the second 'l' out of Malcolm too.

  • Bruce Grey,

Malcolm - perhaps The Civic could run a tour every month/quarter etc. Could be a great thing for locals and tourists.

Also, do you know if the boxes at each side of the stage are usable? Do OSH regulations prevent their use?

I am keen to get seats in one of the lower ones for next year's Wilco concert. The upper boxes would be right next to the speaker stacks, so I am less keen on those.

  • Malcolm Ibell,

Bruce: I know the regular tour idea was investigated.I think the main reason it was rejected was cost – well, cost & security. I shall ask the powers that be though, and give you a more detailed answer.

The boxes are useable – I often use the top ones as follow-spot positions – however they have absolutely shocking sight-lines. In fact you're lucky if you see a third of the stage! They exist more for you to be seen. In fact the only time I remember them used was (I think) by Duran Duran who 'watched' Bryan Ferry from the OP box.

  • Malcolm Ibell,

    Now. The Civic tour...

For those who are coming and that I haven't emailed: We shall meet at Starks at 2:30 and amble up to stage door from there.

I have a DVD copy of Peter Wells' The Mighty Civic to show ya'll too. I feel I must tell you though, that it's 45 min long! So we could be up for a marathon tour.

Gawd I was tired last night!

I forgot to add: Bring cameras... or your choice of recording device.

  • Danielle,

If someone could post their photos somewhere for me to have a look at (if that's allowed) I would be stoked. I wish I could come myself, but I have guests...

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Malcolm, Thanks soo much for what was a wonderful tour. The drinks afterwards turned out to be an excellent way to finish off. Was a pleasure to meet you and yours and all t'others on the day. Soo, seedy from the night before, the camera tried for us, but some of the shots were not so good, although we did our best under the circumstances and here are a few.

Oh awesome! Things you never see as an audience-person. The view from the stage is fabulous. And a close-up panther!

  • Sam F,

Malcolm: I'm so sorry not to have made it in the end, despite all my emailing. I lost track of my work parking card so had to zip around town for an alternative spot - by the time I got to Stark's at quarter to three, you must have all been in the midst of the tour. :|

Glad to hear a good time was had, and there are some neat photos in Sofie's set there.

Sam F, you must have just missed us. Ships in the night an'all. We went through the stage door around the side at about 2.45. Shame eh.

  • Emma Hart,

The Civic tour was amazing, so glad I could be there for that. The Civic may be the most beautiful Thing of any kind I've ever seen - the Civic or John Barrowman.

  • Russell Brown,

My favourite moment was when the "sky" opened. It was a bit of a Matrix moment seeing the illusion roll back.

I also liked driving the follow-spot and walking (in complete safety) 20 metres up over the stage.

    Thanks Malcolm, it was brilliant.

  • Russell Brown,

So is Jackie a better photographer than Steve, or was she just less hungover?

    ;-)

Love this one. Curiously, a key reason for the stage being so awesome is that they had to build it to Andrew Lloyd Webber's specs.

  • Malcolm Ibell,

Thanks everyone. That was hell good fun... And there were still bits we didn't see.

The Civic really is a black hole of time too, as you experienced... although some it could've been, what Tracy calls my 'Grandpa Simpson' moments.

Sam: I'm really sorry we missed you – and by seconds too, it appears. I reckon we may have to do another. Sooner, rather than later!!

Brilliant photos too... I reckon your little tripod was hungover as well, Steve... and Jackie, for all the cursing at the non-functioning flash, yours came out pretty bloody well!

It was really lovely to meet you all – drinks were, as Sofie said, a perfect way to finish the evening.
