  • BenWilson, in reply to duke,

Yeah those are some sharp plans they've just pushed out. However did you read the T&C's !?:

Yup, a reasonable usage thingo. I'm on the very, very cheapest plan in the long haul, so it doesn't apply to me, since I've got a bandwidth cap. I'm not a big volume downloader, but I do want it to be fast. So effectively I've got a 4 month holiday from all telco costs, and after that, they're halved. To boot, I have a fiber connection in my home that took two techos a day to install, and I'm getting 30Mbps down. Their router is way better than the Telecom one, it actually reaches all of my property. All up, pretty stoked.

    Also apologizing for the threadjack(s).

This is an organisation that is very, very politically-influenced, and is being expected to do more with less.

And if it's not about doing more with less - which is on shaky ground given the false economy from replacing public servants with consultants - then it's about installing yes-men in the plum jobs to tell their masters what they want to hear.

Yeah, well, screw you. I have UFB fibre running right past my house, courtesy of the school that's three doors up the road, and Chorus' map shows that we're one intersection (about 150 metres) south of where they plan to make UFB available within the next two years. TWO YEARS the bastards!

7 years ago, Telecom ran a fibre-optic cable into Big O*, after an illustrious inhabitant of the place**collected signatures from 12 of us that our businesses relied
    on having good broadband.
None of us are still with Telecom, but the cable works extremely well...

Toss in that my current ADSL2+ connection has degraded from stable at 20-21Mbps to unstable at even 7Mbps and Orcon don’t have the foggiest idea what’s wrong (though I finally got a Chorus tech who agrees with my assessment that it’s something occurring at the exchange), and you can understand my ire.

  • Kyle Matthews,

That’s where Keith may have done us all a huge favour – more likely now that Cabinet will approve extra money before all the other cross-agency systems are in place, especially Health ones.

Heh heh. He said "extra money".

Considering the Police have been told they aren't allowed extra money, even though they have gang members trying to join up. It must be starting to look like Police Academy 3 down there in Porirua...

I was puzzled as to how more money would help. They do background checks on applicants now.

Come now surely you've changed the default password on your router Ben!

I have, but not the WPA key, which is printed on the router.

    Wow. Just. Wow.

She's taking the piss, right? Satire, yeah? Please tell me she's doing a kind of Colbert Report type of thing...

Sorry, that blogger has never been bright enough to understand satire, let alone perpetrate it.

I can (almost) accept contrary opinions as long as the facts are kept straight but no:

It's also been revealed that Ira Bailey (from the Uruwera 17) bribed the Ministry. In what world do people use bribery rather than just doing the right thing?

    Wut?

The poor silly wee lambie. I was dumb in my 20s (and some would say in middle age too) but praise the lord there was no internet to publish on and have my deep thinkings recorded forever. Reads like a pull-up-your-socks homily from a girls' school novel: Priscilla Sorts Out Politics.
