Muse: How (Not) To Be Incredibly Racist and Sexist Without Really Trying

Excuse me, pardon... shoving to the front of the line here...

Just... wow.

The most famous person in an ensemble always gets the cover. Anyone who doesnt like it can go cry into their ipad.
PS there are real race and gender problems out there. This is just reaching - with some very short stubby limbs. -
And not just race, either. I'm reminded of when a couple of suave young guys in Germany were brought in to lip-sync the voices of "unmarketable" middle-aged singers. It came horribly unstuck during a concert when the CD player jammed.

You know why I’m going to call bullshit on that? Here’s the box art from the DVD release in the UK, where I’d respectfully suggest O’Dowd is a much bigger name than in the US. Notice the difference?

With a side serve of "I'm gunna tell you how you ought to spend your time and energy, and my choice about what you ought to do is definitely better than yours."
Good grief.

Yeah! So stop complaining about people complaining on the internet, and get out and do something about it?
When does this become Inception?

Call off the dogs of law, I've added this to the post:
ETA: Because credit is cool as the outgoing Doctor Who's bowties, many thanks and hat-tips to Che Tibby (@Che_Tibby), Dan Slevin (@danslevin), Chris Philpott (@s) and Moata Tamaira (@MoataTamaira) for much stimulating Twitter dialogue and pointers. The opinions expressed below are my own, but they're damn fine folks to refine my views on.

You're not missing out on anything. At the moment, I'm being quite literal in the strictest sense of the word.

Yeah Craig, how dare you use your platform as a blogger about the arts to, like, blog about the arts? I am SHOCKED.

I believe Russell has retired to the fainting couch at getting not only more than one post in a calendar year, but two with less than a month separating them. Don't fuck with my roll, people.

An apology, and a suggestion that they might change the cover for future shipments:

Yeah, that’s the bit that went under my whelm. So, let's see if I've got this right. Anchor Bay might - please note, might -- change the racist and sexist cover art to something a little less racist and sexist as long as people buy all the offending units they've already shipped?
M'kay... perhaps I'm really cynical, but I'm not feeling the sincerity and commitment here.

Karl is a dressed down circle jerk now.

Blue cover art on a film called "The Sapphires". I'm appalled.

OK, seriously. I wish someone could explain to me why (as far as I can tell) the American market is the only territory where this film's home media release required the four female leads to be Smurfed-out.

I think it's a subtle marketing angle to help Smurfs 2, which clearly needs all the indie help it can get to rake in half a billion dollars.

I would like to emphasise that some of my best friends are brain-damaged goldfish. MUSE supports tolerance for the goldfish community, and wishes to apologise for any offence caused.

I suppose one could also take this approach.
(aside: I found it amusing that the Herald had to provide a translation of tatau - where did they think the word 'tattoo' comes from?!)
