NASA was very keen on ampetamines. The bit they don't show you in Apollo 13 is Mission Control constantly hassling the astronauts in their crippled space capsule to take more drugs...
-
... and then there are interpretations of some of the tapes of the more unlikely US Air Force friendly fire incidents. Agression, impulsive decision making, paranoia...
Sorry, that's a bit of a downer. Funny post! I chortled.

That story smells a bit.
"I understand it commonly happens in Rotorua.
"I haven't seen a dog on P, but I've heard about it from drug squad police at conferences."Come on. It's all a bit Brass Eye isn't it?
(Tho' I'm guessing you don't believe it either, David.)
-
Sorry bout that. Left my satire glasses at home.
-
Hah yes, evidence of giving dogs P?
Is it that plentiful you'd give it to the pets?
Anyway, I think that any blogpost describing various drugs & their effects should come with a shopping cart.
And doesn't Holmsey look just like Gilligan grown up?

doesn't Holmsey look just like Gilligan grown up?
Gilligan shrunk, surely?
-
Has fusion cooking jumped the fence to journalism?
Throw dangerous dogs and P together - voila, a new story.
Any takers for what the next dish/news will contain?
-
merc,
Cannibalism.
-
amphetamine has been used in modern combat for decades, particularly with pilots - although there are problems with disinhibition. there have also been trials of PCP as a combat drug because of its ability to elevate aggression and suppress pain, although i gather heavily armed men on PCP have proved a bit unmanagable. whodda thunkit.
as for dogs on P, well i heard there are also organized gangs of armed dogs manufacturing the stuff. there's been a few kennel raids but mostly they're being kept quiet.
-
I've heard about it from drug squad police at conferences.
I just finished Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. There's a great bit where Dr. Gonzo and his Samoan Lawyer are posing as vice squad and describing the drug scene in California to a Sheriff from Georgia.
"Satanists who drink human blood. It's the pineal gland that they're after" -
merc,
Hadyn, brilliant call, I thought of the same scene myself.
-
american govt tested LSD on troops without their consent or knowledge as well. how nice!
-
Well my cats who stole and ate my mushrooms one night had no lasting affects...
-
merc,
Except they now have a double dose of The Knowing.
-
pcp to raise aggression? guess that's why soldiers shouldn't smoke cannabis.
sergant: "AND WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO THE ENEMY SOLDIER!!!??"
grunt: "dude... i just wanna make a sandwich..."
although, apparently the terrorists are already onto the positive benefits.
-
merc,
Reminds me of a scene from Apocalypse Now involving a rifle, weed and a "shotgun".
Capt Willard: Whose in charge here soldier?
Soldier: I thought you were. -
Except they now have a double dose of The Knowing
One did - she was wired and up for it. The other one decided he couldn't deal with it and went to bed...
Please also let me assure gentle readers that it was entirely accidental and much regretted. Goddammit - the 'shrooms cost me money!
-
merc,
...and from his bed he dreamed he was a cat dreaming he was a cat...
-
them Odinist Vikings knew a thing or two about mushrooms and a fightin'.

All together now to the tune of What a Friend We have in Jesus:
We don't need no Marijuana,
We don't want no LSD,
Coke or Speed we have no need for,
BECAUSE WE'RE F...D OUT OF OUR HEADS ON 'P' -
LOL! PCP is nothing like cannabis. I think you're thinking of THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol. PCP is phencyclidine, and it's addictive and potentially very dangerous.
-
from Che's link above:
One soldier told him later: "Sir, three years ago before I joined the army, I never thought I'd say 'That damn marijuana'."
So there you have it - the military are so desperate for recruits they'll sign up pot-heads to fill their ranks. I tried to find a link to the story late last year about how the US military signed up a mentally challenged youth despite his parents objections but alas my googling skills are not great and all I got was this (albeit shocking - 17 y.o. lured with promise of X-box)
Interestingly, if you google "US military recruiters sign up mentally challenged youth" the third suggestion you get is the army.com web page!
Army.com - Army Raises Enlistment Age
I think if you are fit and mentally challenged to do so , then you are able to ... Though today’s youth is growing up in the technology age and it is us, ...

Oops, that above reply was in reply to Che Tibby's post.

heh. i was offered pcp at a party many years ago.
a quick bit of research revealled the side effects; potential nerve damage, inability to reason, blah blah blah. the che wasn't touching the stuff, wasted as he already was.
the last thing we need is the nation's leaders on horse tranquilisers...
