The infamous ‘finger licking good’ scene showed just how shockingly rare actual foreplay is on television. Bless them, they were even doing ‘porn for women’ before it got trendy.

But tonight, we'll be watching the first episode of the final season of Outrageous Fortune. Live. Not even on the DVR. We'll find something to do during the ad breaks.
And so will we, sit down in front of the television and watch it live, every Tuesday. Feels weird. I watched it on-demand once, because I missed the episode that was on the day after I had surgery.
I'm going to miss it, and I shall blub like an emo teen when it goes, but it seems inarguably the right decision.

For all the sex and the swearing and the crime and the stupidity and the morally dodgy stuff, Outrageous Fortune was always, at heart a very conservative show, exploring family values.
It's also a show that managed, at it's considerable best, to skip along a very tricky tonal high wire: It could shift effortlessly between broad comedy (that was never mean-spirited or condescending) and high tragedy. Everyone got their moments of wonky grace, courage and kindness.

I'm always going to heart Munter (sorry JeVan shippers) -- though my fantasy life is complicated by knowing Tammy Davis' RW partner. Ainsley Gardner would cut my face off and use it as an oven mitt if I ever sleazed on her baby-daddy. :)

I'd like to add something about the dialogue on Outrageous Fortune. It crackles. It's interesting to listen to. It's written for characters with thoughts and a point of view. It tells you more about what's happening than just what's happening. Packed To The Rafters, please note. The actors do great with it, too.

Can anyone tell me the name of the song being used in one of the promo clips ?
It's the promo with a shot of a bonfire and a shot of Judd alone in bed, not the promo with the mortuary scene and Cheryl's voice-over.It's a very beautiful, haunting song, that's for sure. I assume it's by an NZ artist ?

Is it online anywhere Grant? I've only seen the season 1-5 recap which has some promo stuff at the end, and the hospital/mortuary one.

Outrageous Fortune, definitely NZ's best show ever in my book. Regarding James Griffin you forgot to mention "Spin Doctors" mocking the PR industry (could there be a worthier target?) which was seriously underrated. I recall a priceless letter to the Herald from an aggrieved PR agency guy commenting that not all PR company owners were pretentious, Audi driving, vineyard owning tossers. His self important seriousness somewhat undermined his point. I'm sure the writers had a chuckle about that one.

Good point. His NZ On Screen bio reminds me he was also involved with Street Legal, which didn't altogether suck either, and was story producer on Bro' Town. OTOH, I deliberately left out Diplomatic Immunity, because I didn't really get that. Sorry James ...

Better even than the early years of Selwyn Toogood's It's in the Bag? More ground-breaking than Blerta? More important than Tangata Whenua?

My money's on Loretta, and Hayden "Bloody" Peters. Angry and rough, somewhere highly uncomfortable (perhaps in a Mini).

I really liked James comment re The Wests (in Canvas), he loved them but wouldn't want to live next door to them.
Spin Doctors was a bit OK too. Seemed to be based on some first-hand knowledge.

All Blacks: Best performance by an All Blacks side rated number two in the world against the Springboks (rated number one) at Eden park, on Saturday 10th July 2010, ever.
Well for starters, the All Blacks are the #1 ranked team in the world, and the Springboks are #2. Has been that way since end of last year (http://www.irb.com/rankings/full.html).
I think some people would rate parts of the 1956 series in NZ, and the 1996 series (first time we won in South Africa) as best.
