And to add to my previous post...
"F**k off! We're not the Association of Consumers and Taxpayers! We're the Taxpayers and Consumers Association!"
Splitters!

Words come out funny when the truth needs twisting. -
Splitters !
Dang, Andre - you got in before me !
Which forces me to head off in a different direction and say "I mean, where's it gonna gestate ?, in a box ?".
-
I swear to tell the truth...
Words come out funny when the
truth needs twisting.Bugger! so that's why Garrett didn't get
the deputy job then... -
merc,
More words http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/4040573/Roger-Douglas-mulls-his-future-in-ACT these guys have great access.
-
Doesn't Rodney understand the concept of parade ground language? Mind you, it's probably unusual for policy papers to refer to the Chief of the Defence Staff as "old cunt-face".
-
so that's why Garrett didn't get
the deputy job then...He still gets to chair the caucus, though. Presumably because they have a rule in there that says they can't get a potted plant or a passing bonobo to do it.
-
From that Stuff link:
"I guess we haven't necessarily shown we've been capable of that. I'm not blaming anyone for that. When these things happen, it's no one individuals fault. Collectively, we've got to take responsibility."
Did Roger Douglas really say that? Someone got to mash up a soundbite of Collectively, we've got to take responsibility., interspersed with some of the meatier ones about individual responsibility.
-
Potted plant would do a good job - but not a bonobo. Waaayy too smart
to go near such a mess- -
Wilson was too respectful to finish Douglas off on natrad tonight. Did he talk about the failed 1996 Labour leadership coup and twice refer to 1966? Too weird.
-
Roger Douglas has just said on Checkpoint that everything's now hunky-dory between Hide and Roy and that Act will get 7 - 8% and 10 MPs at the next election.
ACT truly live in a parallel universe, don't they ? -
Does anyone feel a little sad looking at Roger Douglas...? Like watching a once vibrant disliked relative start losing the plot?
-
No. Just you. :-)
-
Vodafine's lamentable inability to operate a reliable email service didn't help either.
Doing the pendant on page 3 seems a bit, well pedantic, but if this was intentional, zing, and if not, also zing.
Strangely I made the same typo in an email today and left it in on purpose. Their monthly phone bill does seem like a list of parking infringements when all is said and done.
I can't get behind Heather Roy and Rodney Hide. So I'll stay in front.
-
I heard Douglas going on about 1966. Maybe he cooked his corned beef in aluminium saucepans a few too many times.
-
Does anyone feel a little sad looking at Roger Douglas...?
I'm sad that he's still thrust in front of my unwilling eyeballs periodically, if that's what you mean.
-
That Roger-the-country bloke did so much damage - and his bloody party continues the process...sad looking at his decay? Mwahahahah!
Roll on the the dissolution! -
I believe that it was Denis Welch who, back at the time of Douglas's ooze to prominence, described him as having spent years in the political wilderness cultivating his mustache, which "bristled authoritatively and sent positive signals to the market". All I notice these days is the missing mustache, which gives the despicable runt something of the air of an amputee. It's the kind of face that the only humane response to is to step on firmly to end its misery.
-
Act will get 7 - 8% and 10 MPs at the next election.
ACT truly live in a parallel universe, don't they ?True, but it's cheering that their biggest fantasist's biggest fantasy is 8% of the vote. I'd say that actually confirms their terrible prospects.
-
Hidey = dog'dinner and none of the slithy toves in Parliament?
I'd go with that Stephen Judd! -
"Heather Roy is a soldier in the territorials. She was scared of a short man with a spray-on suntan who went on Dancing with the Stars?"
Well, to be fair to Roy, there are several layers of scary in that description. I myself almost bumped into the man on Lambton Quay, outside Farmers, in early 2009, and the psychic scars are still with me. I can only imagine what working with him on a daily basis would do to one.
On a different note, these two recent posts on Crooked Timber have some thoughtful observations on why libertarians don't tend to do the whole "collective responsibility" thing very well. And some truly disturbing comments from offended libertarians that tend to underline the main points.

Interesting responses from teh man in the street on Your Views in the Herald today. I don't go near Your Views as a rule - not unless I want my blood pressure raised - it's not exactly a hotbed of lefty/liberal thinking, but today I was curious to see what the general consensus was to the question Is Rodney Hide a bully?.
There are 24 responses, and I counted exactly one in favour of Hide. The rest are firmly of the opinion that he's a bully and quite possibly a nutter as well.
The most common additional comment refers to the debacle that is the Super City and Hide's part in it, followed closely by "Epsom, what were you thinking?", with a decent proportion of people also indicating that they're pretty sure ACT won't survive past the next election. A bunch of people are also still unhappy with his hypocrisy over the girlfriend/perks thing, and there are also a fair few people extremely unimpressed by their coat-tails riding with National and the fact that National have given ACT and Rodders so much power for so few votes.
There's also a poll on the Herald's front page with the question "Who has been most discredited by the Act leadership row?"
Heather Roy is on 15%
Rodney Hide is on 77%
No-one has been discredited is on 8%All of which, from the Your Views audience especially, does not bode well for Mr Hide or the ACT party as a whole.
Of course, I guess we knew all that anyway, seeing as it's only the good people of Epsom who are almost entirely responsible for this party being anywhere near Parliament in the first place, but I still found it rather heartening to read.
I also don't think it bodes particularly well for National. Key's getting quite a bit of flak for aligning National so closely with ACT, and I don't think it's all due to current events, either. I think (hope) there's a substantial group of National voters who don't like NACT at all, and never have.
-
I, for one, salute Epsom's Ferengi overlord...
...Yeah right.
