  • Riddley Walker,

now i've left my notes to myself on this elsewhere.
but in the meantime m, you may be interested in the similarities between Jung's characterization of Mary and the Hindu tradition regarding Shakti, and more specifically Kali (which in turn relates to Artemis IMHO, who btw is sometimes emobodied as my shamanic totem, shaved guinea pigs, aside of course).

  • merc,

And Astarte, otherwise Venus, the 8 pointed star that tracks it's own shape through the heavens (the only one to do so, round the Sun, hence the Sun symbol inside The Star of Astarte (linked to Iraq), she is also notably the only female deity etc. I have indeed studied these, in part under The Mother archetype.
Because Christianity purged The Goddess leaving the quarternity (as a symbol of wholeness) to become The Trinity. Mary was assumpted by Papal Bull, round 1948 (see other thread) but only in Her virgin aspect, however Chritians are all born in sin.
These things have IMHO far reaching consequences for us all.

  • hamishm,

Synchronicity as the fabulous Laurie Anderson sees it.
<quote> And Sharkey says: All of nature talks to me. If I could just figure out what it was trying to tell me. </quote
    That's how it is.

  • Riddley Walker,

    verily, far reaching consequences indeed.
have you ever wondered how much the pejoration of female deities stems from males' fear of feminine sexuality with specific regard to their ability to 'lure', mermaid-like, even the most powerful men to behaving apparently irrationally?

  • merc,

I ascribe to the Meat For Sex theory. but I couldn't explain it here. There is another book called The Goddess Versus The Alphabet not nearly as funny as Meat For Sex but less open to derision.
Laurie, I just loved her goggles and swim hat and that she dressed up as a man to talk with old William S Burroughs. Language is not a virus.

  • hamishm,

I think it might be the power thing again. Men could not make people , yes their output was needed but if the seed fell on barren ground, well that was it. If you could subjugate the means of production (me showing off), you would have some power.

I suppose now we would say that language is a meme?

I wernt maken no Eusa connexion.

  • merc,

If you ascribe to the Tao, the hard will always be overcome by the soft. Yes woman can produce little men and men can't, but then maybe gender is a meme.
Language cannot be a meme, because you need language to describe it, therefore, language used to describe language would fall into...
..."in the land of perpetual darkness there are answers to questions that have (sic) yet to be asked..." Monkey (Chronicles of Monkey and Tripitaka). Or, an eyeball cannot see itself, or an observed atom changes due to the observer observing it.
Personally I think it's time to colonize Venus.

We might be just a way for hormone molecules to get around and the various side affects that have on our bodies might be no more than side affects. It is an interesting idea, though I feel it might cause rugby club after-match functions to be a little more tense.
I just want to say thanks for the links merc, you've given my brain something to gnaw on.

  • merc,

You are welcome, De Chardin's theory of the Noosphere is a thriller but edges towards flakey, IMHO.
BTW, really, rugby has little to do with testosterone.

  • Riddley Walker,

seems to me like a lot of the time rugby has little to do with rugby either.

I am returned, fashioned after the eternal return, post 666, I am now Androgyne and I have seen Antinomy.
Nobody Important - I am returned and you Yeah Righted me...let me say, I am returned like McArthur, better than before, stronger and with a clean pipe and Aviators. The things that I have seen. I apologize if the quip re your gravy-tar shocked you, but I can be impulsive, or I was before now, I am New.

  • merc,

Twas the literacy for Guinea Pigs got me, and that Handel clip made me mawf with joy all over my bad dual heads. You can PM me of course and there's a little photo on teh blog for you. Did I rise on the 3rd day? Oh my God I assumpted at 3.33 pm on the 27/4 (that would total 13, 9+4), I have come back as 5, the number of the Goddess, however, as I stated, I am Androgyne, and have written a book of poems called just that, and a further called Antinomy, each has 33 poems within, the age that Christ died. Not that I give any credance to any of this, of course.
Thanks for the Buckley clip, it helped while I was in transit.

  • Riddley Walker,

two books of poetry is good going. and there were a lot of 3s about. so summing to 5 is not surprising i guess.
sentimentally, i was looking for clips of The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner. those slo-mo shots of the ski-jumper are so beautiful to me.

  • merc,

I cheated and had the books previously prepared, there's nothing like poetry getting in the way of a decent assumpting. My maternal Grandmother (dead) was a ski jump champion (alpine Cherman's we), personally surfing got me and then there was my Mother's accident, on the slopes, all leading to a very strange Hotel New Hampshire (John Irving) feel about my family.
I got 5 out of my 2.21 return on the 1st of the fifth month, I was assumpted in the 4th month, of course.
BTW 6 + 1 = 7, The New Light, and that would be Christ or His brother depending on which way you look at it, because you and I know...The brightest fell...

  • Riddley Walker,

i guess preparing poetry earlier is always good if there's a risk of burning and you have hungry readers arriving.

my grandmother was a Sudetenlaender although cruise ships were more her thing. a champion ski-jumping nana is quite something. she must've been cool. i once visited the olympic jump in Oslo and it was just unbelievabley steep and scary. if you'd slipped at the top and weren't on skis you'd be dead by the time you got to the bottom, even if you didn't go over the jump.
ski jump and biathlon are the only winter sports i like to watch. ski jumping because it's so pretty. biathlon because it is so mean. having done a wee bit of weapons training and cross country skiing, i know how they just so totally don't mix.

the brightest will always fall m. they're bright because they will fall. and they fall because they are bright. want to stay up? stay dim.

  • merc,

The Sudetenland, I must research, didn't the little moustach invade? I still have my Grandmothers ski medals including someone elses (her Mother's?) from Germany, great fonts. My Granfather used to turn ski's in the bath and use them or rent them out, they ski'd the Ruahine's, I have strange photos from that time. I was held back from the snow but received weapons training none the less, including horse work, but that's another story.
Now where would you have done cross country skiing?
As for The Fall, I'm on the side of the Antinomists , thank God for Eve and the snake.

  • Riddley Walker,

that little Austrian would have said he was reclaiming it. the terroritory was Bohemia. what i do have from my grandparents are some rather disturbing car badges that were all the rage in Chermany in the late 30s, but that's also another story. did most of the cross-country in the very far North, where the snow is a bit deep for horses. i expect they're a bugger for accuarcy too.

and yes, from whence did the snake come if not from God?

  • merc,

Small voice...the snake is the cthonic God.
Now that Wotan is a God's God.

  • Riddley Walker,

interesting essay m. we are indeed frightened of the thanatic in this world.
i would have said Wotan was more of a Gods God but i take your point. the Wotan Clan. and i see the Antinomists originated in C16th Chermany, around the same time as the Rosicrucians, whose symbol is also that of negation.

    AKL • Since Feb 2007 • 890 posts Report

  • merc,

Then there was that uppity Cherman, Martin Luther. Wotan, does Wotan exist in the Christian God, or indeed in the breast of Cherman's. I must confess to a morbid black forest wish to die in battle in order to gain entry into Valhalla, however suppressed.
    As above, so below.

  • Riddley Walker,

i prefer the idea of heaven below, it makes sense when it's 5 degrees below zero on the surface.
you know for the Bedouin, Heaven is above, but it is always overcast, and thus not too hot.
