Cool. I hope Media7 will get torrented/uploaded somehow for us overseas to watch!

Hehe, I predicted you should have your own TV show, when...

  • Geoff Lealand,

Have a great launch, Russell. When you get a mo (and I know you are very busy chappie) could you give me some info on hooking up to Freeview (ie fitting it around Sky Digital). Maybe there isn't a problem but the Freeview people haven't been very helpful.

In the real world of Super 14, prospects are getting brighter, with the improving form of the Chiefs. Got some great talent, that team.

  • Jason Kemp,

The TVNZ site makes my eyes hurt - but surely no harm in linking to

The pr intro for Media 7

(Marketing tip to TVNZ wesbite managers - how about using shorter human readable URL's - better for SEO and actual humans! - Its not that difficult to do.)

And to On Demand in the space where a link to Media7 should be?

presume the show will be available online somewhere? for those who haven't got freeview boxes sorted yet?

Is it Freeview satellite? You just need to run the coax from your dish into the Freeview box first, then out from there into your Sky decoder. From memory, our MySky needed a soft reboot, then was fine.

  • Idiot Savant,

So, how long is it till I can get a workable decoder again? The ads during the launch yesterday made me crave real TV.

  • samuel walker,

you won't get the usual unlikely torrent of prose from me. I'll pop in on Thursday with links to the various internet iterations of our work, on the main site, TVNZondemand and, yes, even YouTube.

so instead of the 'torrent of prose' we may be getting a prose on torrents.........

    ahem,,,,

Congratulations, Russell. Are there any plans to get Mr Brown in Singapore on the show from time to time?

  • Tom Semmens,

Speaking of freeview, and general discussions of poor customer service, I was in Dick Smith's at St Lukes on Saturday and I was looking at the freeview decoders. The sales staff girl who came to talk to me not only knew all the answers to my questions how to connect the freeview box to my TV which already has a HDD PVR/DVD player, skydigital decoder, X-box and my torrent playing laptop (we download over the wireless network to this laptop so we can watch movies directly) but when she found out I have a big LCD set she actually persuaded me NOT to buy the $249 freeview decoder, telling me to wait until the HDTV version comes along.

Upshot of her excellent customer service was she didn't get a $249 sale - but I know exactly where I will be purchasing my $400-500 HDTV freeview decoder - from her.

Until then, its TVNZ on demand thingy for me.

  • Kerry Weston,

From the files of a techno-dummy: Tom, I also have an LCD tv, no aerial, we use bunny ears. Reception is ok for tvnz, not prime. Looked into freeview options, but, shock horror, I'm confused.

Is the HDTV freeview decoder you mention the best option - will I need a proper aerial or would I be better off getting a dish?

as for noel leeming / bond and bond...

Does Noel Leeming train its staff to make you feel like a dirty old man hanging around a kindergarten inside of a minute, or is that just a happy coincidence? I know you folks want to make a sale, but give me a couple of minutes to look around.

Even better: "I don't know, but I'll find someone who does". I don't expect ever clerk in a store of this nature to be expert on every single item in stock, but I do expect them to put service ahead of ego/arse-covering.

Do you spend much time coming up with these colourful flourishes or do they just spill off your fingertips and straight into the computer?

  • Yamis,

Russell, real men tip in the NRL.

That's where we get made to feel weak and pathetic.

Greg Alexander managed to tip 0 from 8 in week 2 and there he was as an expert comments person on the tellie the other night. Although the vast majority of tipsters no matter where you look are well below or right on 50%.

The Super 14 is a walk in the park by comparison, even if the Blues are pretending they are going to lose games lately.

I promise to watch the ads on YouTube. A freeview decoder isn't in my allowed capex for this year.

Curious, they always make me feel like a dirty old man in a nightclub. I don't know any of the tunes and no one will talk to me. Getting even filthy looks would be an improvement.

I've been told that I have an analogical mind and no internal censor. If you know anything about my background, that wasn't meant as a compliment.

I have the opposite problem. Do I really look like the kind of person who require immediate intervention before you start licking the cordless phones or attempting to shoplift a fridge/freezer?

  • andin,

Media7 will not only look at the media, but will include practical explanations as to how different elements of the media work, such as advertising, PR, and media buying.

This is in the vocational guidance section of the show I presume.
Gotta get those yuffs into employment eh, or give the illusion they might get well paid employment.

If only we could see ourselves the way others see us. I suspect I'm hard to distinguish from the background. The camouflage of total ordinariness.

  • Mark Thomas,

    Fantastic show tonight Russell! Congratulations!
I think you had Mark Jennings sweating in the first 10 minutes (though I'm not sure if that was your intention)

The news item straight after media7 was priceless - does the presenter always store her microphone under her desk?!

I'm not sure if you're aware, but there was a bottle of heineken placed squarely in front of the audience camera during your show - it looked a bit like product placement...

Quite possibly -- but there are encouraging signs that TVNZ7 news don't have a lot of money to splash around, so might just be focused on doing the basics right.
