Hey, yeah, there are lots of photoblogs – but I’ve never seen one where the audience took up the ability to upload their own images and immediately started having conversations in pictures. It’s really, really remarkable.
Capture has been incredible. I haven't even seen that sort of engagement on the Flickr groups I've been part of over the years. I think it's a combo of camera technology being in the right place, the PA System photo sharing interface, and also the keen-as PA System community.

Yeah, it's kind of blown me away too. I was hoping it would be a success eventually, but it seems to be an idea whose time had come, to coin a phrase. But the key, IMhO (ahem), is the warm atmosphere that existed in PA prior to its arrival.
Ian linked to a sign that reads 'Sorry Nice People Only'.
Pretty much sums it up, I reckon.

Even the people I don't like are nice!

It builds on what's gone before it, becomes part of the whole, and provides a foundation for whatever comes next. It's kind of great.

an award for short attention spans?
Congratulations on the poll dancing prize... Excellent news, that this site has been recognised as the soul of digression, the home of waffly irony with no lack of prolix 'n' politics...
I'm thinking Islander's wonderful “circumperambulation” has found the perfect new home, here at heart of circumlocutory rambling, fluent reasoning and meandering streams of consciousness...Discurs...

Oh, now you're just being sedimental...

Meta morphic
I don't want to slate your argument, but I think it's full of schist.

my main influence is, I think, being a warm body here nearly all the time
Way more than that. You created a tone, and kept working at it for years. You trusted some good people to grow it. Most of the contributors here would be pretty stoked with this outcome - there is a real sense that this forum leads opinion on many things. Nice to have numbers. Great to be a part of it.

I don't have the stones to handle these puns. You’ve all lost your marble(s).

Also, only my cat puts more effort and hours into trying to bring about my early demise.

Maybe that was a pun too far? It's just norite!
Could someone sing this corrosion to me...
Ahh, Lambchop. -

Don't be silly, killing you would be too easy. Establishing a state of fear and paranoia while still being cute enough to get steak trimmings is what defines feline talent.

I'd have thought it was more plutonic...
Indeed, it is igneous that rocks my Tangerine Dream world.

whose audience has the highest proportion of active contributors to messages boards, blogs and online discussions.
On the website itself or tracked more broadly across all boards, blogs etc?
-
Thomas Johnson, in reply to
Not being much of a pun-dit, I'm wondering the same. It seems like it's across NZ websites in total(?), in that a certain % of unique browsers that visit PA also make comments on web forums, blogs etc.
I'm slightly stunned that The Double Standard has so many unique visitors. There's obviously a much bigger audience for rabid (noun failure) than for the rather delicious discourse that goes on here.
-
I am well pleased to be part of the "most discursive website" even though I don't know what that means.
This blog is a good place to be, as Jackson says it has a warm atmosphere but most of all the craic is good. -

The latter. There are more people who discuss online in general than at any other site.

Russell, congratulations. You are a gracious and thoughtful host to a boisterous and disputatious rabble of which I’m delighted to be a part.

+1 from another one of the Rabble

That's a metal. Your schist may be full of gold, but only if you've got a clean slate, and do your deposits in vein.

I certainly dig what you're saying.
