A replacement show... will have more of an entertainment focus and more oversight by MediaWorks executives.
Hmmm... "entertaining" Current Affairs, as decided by Julie Christie with the stamp of approval from Key & Co. Probably more The Block than Panorama.
Russell's 3 Sharp comment is right on the button.

The Glucina attack piece on Amanda Bailey and now the obvious political payback on Campbell live. The Plutocrats must be confident, they are giving up even pretending.

Trying to blame John Campbell for senior female presenters leaving is beyond cheek. Her 'source' at TV3 sure is a piece of work.

I hope Maori TV is safe . There is no confidence and supply agreement in Parliament with the Maori Party. I see Georgina te Heuheu is Chairman. The ex National Ministers seem to waltz into pretty nice jobs. If nothing else, performance as Ministers should give people a general idea of their direction . I'm thinking of Katherine RICH now, wonder where that came from.....

Glucina's piece this week on Lorde splitting with her manager was lifted straight off the Gruniad's website ... (she did acknowledge it as something like the Guardian reports fairly early on, but I wonder how many readers realised almost the entire piece was thanks to the Guardian).

When an OIA request can be spurned by the PM's office, stuff-all chance of holding these scum accountable.

The comments that Mediaworks management view coverage of Pike River as fatiguing and the Chch earthquakes and child poverty undeserving of in depth coverage I find disgraceful and as such I have decided to not buy anymore of Mark Weldons, unfortunately excellent, Pinot Noir (Terra Sancta).
Are there any products linked either to him or Julie Christie that could be similarly avoided?

Van Beynen’s also taken to referring to himself as a public intellectual, again without a hint of irony.
Yeah, I've lost what little respect I had for him over the last couple of years. Too much reading his own press releases.

I imagine Mihi Forbes will be bloody livid at being used as a Glucina/Christie attack line. And the idea that Rebecca Wright decamped because there was no scope for her to be the new Toni Street is pretty silly. Never mind that she didn't leave Campbell Live for One News, she left the failed Paul Henry late news show.
Another thing Glucina curiously left out is that Campbell Live has (I think) only ever been produced by women: Carol Hirschfeld and Pip Keane.

According to the Companies Office, Mark Weldon is involved with the following companies (only the ones that are still active or with Weldon's current involvement):
* Planck & Heisenberg - probably a private equity vehicle, no obvious public presence.
* Geoop Ltd
* The Village Press Olive Oil Ltd
* Lola Nominees Ltd - private equity vehicle, no obvious public presence.
* Freeview Ltd
* Canterbury Grasslands Ltd
* Buddybid LtdAs for Julie Christie, outside of her MediaWorks interests she seems to have mostly holdings in private equity funds.

Imagine if David Cunliffe was still leading the Labour Party. Wouldn't he have an enormous amount of credibility on the affordable housing issue and the capital gains tax? It's a pity- I liked seeing him and his wife in the background of the Key ogles Kate's hair meme. What might have been.
Plague on both their houses. We are entering a cashed-up, political-favours, poor-excluded electoral system and a spot the difference Republicans/Democrats political life. I guess we should shut up and vote for Hilliary right?
How effective have those been who knifed him? The career-ites and the Blair-ites. Can't wait for the Change the Coat of Arms too Labour old white right-wing charge.
Still, must cut benefits for those who don't vote= winner, I'm sure.
The twitter boycott to the rescue! Meh. :-( -
In a thread related topic- how expensive would a solely web based show funded by someone like NetFlix or some such be for Mr Campbell?

On a technical level it could be produced fairly cheaply. But you wouldn't be able to employ 22 people on proper salaries to make it, so you'd need to get a bit creative about how you went about things.

80 odd K subscriptions at $10 a year would be a start perhaps? Unless those petition numbers were BS. With some on a higher kick in, with a show sponsor and regular advertising, Netflix or someone also kicking in. A potential audience of 300K plus on the rescreens surely would be a tasty looking carrot for any streaming service looking for credibility. John C? Some instant cred.
Though I suppose they would then piss off all the numerous Nat supporters, which isn’t such great business…though Campbell’s audience is wider than just left/right.If you got a streaming company with enough views breaking investigative stories the other media would have to pick it up.

So beautifully framed by those who need it that this is the left / right thing. This binary should be irrelavant.Campbell is on the left blah blah Why can't you just critisise, hold govt. to account for telling lies, bullying, acting immorally just cos thats a shit way to act? Whether you normally vote Act, Greens, Labour etc....should be irrelavant - govt should be able to be held up against normal standards of the right wrong and good - and if Cambell has even shown any bias then it is surely only towards fairness, decency, having empathy etc...if that is his crime and the reason he got dumped then it really does reflect a fucked up place and set of values.
-
Or the reality of the market? Our market maybe above any concept of values beyond the almighty dollar.
-
I guess it is all too obvious and depressing.

I agree. It should also be irrelevant as to whether this is "the way it's always worked so who cares", which (even if actually right) is the standard apologist line I've heard over and over again. If we don't expect high standards then it's hardly a wonder we don't get them.

I accidentally caught some of the show in the car the other day and they were featuring brass band music. Brass band music! Who listens to that anymore? Seriously. Are RNZ really that far out of touch with their audience?
This is precisely the reason I enjoy listening to radio active in the weekends so much - you never know what crazy ass music is going to turn up. Weekdays not so much, too much talking and too many ads for nga tonga sound & vision.

excellent, Pinot Noir
If this were the feed blog I'd give you a long list of excellent alternatives :) Honestly New Zealand make some amazing Pinot noir and there is no need to be wedded to any one producer. Sadly amazing and cheap Pinot noir is harder to find.

My fave value point Pinot so far is the Shaky Bridge mid-series (pdf) - moreso than its costlier sibling.

I'd always enjoyed it after a southern holiday, although certainly not exclusively of other Pinots, those associations are now overridden finding out it was Weldons own vinyard.
Fortunate to live in a wine producing region and so our local supermarkets sometimes have cancelled export orders which can lead to very occasional amazing and cheap Pinot on a seasonal basis.
