  • Mellopuffy,

Interesting chat to my folks this evening. Quite happy with Mayor Bob and his handling of the situation thus far, they are...

  • Just thinking,

It's Sideshow Bob, and he has charm in spade loads, much like the spade loads we,ve been moving over the last couple of days.

He would have been a good Auckland Mayor for all the reasons he's a bad Christchurch Mayor.

  • Russell Brown,

The open thread on the earthquake launched by Ian Wishart on his blog on Saturday has run to a rather disappointing seven reader comments.

This may or may not be because the first comment reads:

    "New Zealand under judgement?"

In other news, the new issue of Investigate magazine apparently says that oral sex gives you cancer.

  • Mellopuffy,

Guess I was just wanting to make the point that it's easy to be cynical, but that our views aren't necessarily that of the majority...

  • giovanni tiso,

On the upside, the new issue of Investigate magazine apparently proclaims that oral sex gives you cancer.

To whom? The giver or the recipient?

  • Ross Mason,

Ross, you're just not reading the Libertarianz right. You have to read them as comedy. They're gold.

    It's all good now. I've had a wee dram.....happy again.....I'm home...

    Right. Back to reality.

Interesting chat to my folks this evening. Quite happy with Mayor Bob and his handling of the situation thus far, they are...

I think a lot of kudos has to go to National CD. And I think it goes back a few years to when John Norton got stuck in and told local bodies that the Beehive cannot do their work in a disaster. He had a battle and he got a bit of shit when the Wanganui/Manawatu floods hit and there was a lot of soul searching in the aftermath including people not knowing what the hell was going on out there. The local bodies had not got there arse into gear but after that things started getting sorted out. Then came the Tsunami(s) and that too got it sorted a bit more. Practice WAS making perfect?

Once the quake hit it seems - from here anyway - that the local bodies - at least around Chch - have finally got their shit together and it appears - again from here - that it IS being sorted.

It IS good to see that we can do things together with the Govt assisting - again viewed from here - seemingly talking as one with the locals. (I hold my breath 'cos Gerry is there but.)

I feel almost confident if a bigger one hits. But I don't really want to be around the Wgtn CBD.

  • Jackie Clark,

In other news, the new issue of Investigate magazine apparently says that oral sex gives you cancer.

Speechless. Actually, not. If I don't have vagina cancer from all the sex I had, and if I don't have lung cancer from all the cigarettes I've smoked over the years, then I certainly am not going to worry about getting oral cancer from.......

  • Craig Ranapia,

What, right through their arse? In Parliament today there was definitely a push from Labour to help everyone, with mention from Goff that if the people of SCF could be bailed, then everyone in CHCH could be assisted with lost wages and support for their damaged homes.Good on Labour.

Who was suggesting otherwise? And I know the temptation to bring up SCF at every turn is tempting, but did you listen to Focus on Politics this week? Cringe worthy listening to raw audio of Goff being reminded by journalists of details of the Crown Retail Deposit Guarantee Scheme he voted for, and presumably assented to when Michael Cullen presented it to Cabinet.

Just on the QT, I was hoping the internet would eat my PAR piece this week because South Canterbury Finance felt like a weirdly irrelevant (and near tasteless) subject. The risk of having something recorded Thursday lunchtime getting overtaken by events before Sunday evening. But there's just so many reasons why SCF is not a cudgel Goff should be waving around at any time...

I haven't heard anyone but Bunns the Courier Driver on TV3 say he's voting for Bob.

This sums it up for everyone I've been speaking too:

It depends if it is an arithmetic sequence (where the next will be "Mother of None") or a geometric sequence (which would be "Mother of One" followed by "Egg Donor")
