There's also a new blog by founder and one-again owner Roger Shepherd
That's not the same Roger Shepherd of nz.comp fame, notorious hater of Lunix and other challenges to the global Microsoft hegemony?

No, Roger Shepherd, founder of Flying Nun Records. You need to get out more ;-)

Thankless hellhole stinks. Grand enigma.*
... one-again owner Roger Shepherd...
Good on all the King's horses and all the King's
men © for putting Roger back together again,
I knew he was a bit loose,
but I didn't know he'd broken...
:- )BTW * is apparently an anagram of ©
a musty old void...and seriously, should you be telling the world
you're not home? - at least tell them about the
friend with the Dobermann who is house -sitting
so no-one gets hurt! -
Indeed, you wouldn't be wanting unwelcome visitors, mind you I suppose it don't matter what you tell them, they smash their way in anyway. On the day that Crusher Collins blames the media for the public losing respect for the police it is, almost, laughable. I wonder what the Samoan community think of Police respect for them?.
Dawn Raid anyone?.
And the Beat(ing) goes on. -

so no-one gets hurt!Yes, there is a friend house-sitting. And our cat is quite ferocious when the mood takes him.

3410,
Hey, if anyone knows Firefox 3, could you please tell him that his latest update is fucking up my email?

Neil Finn repays David Byrne for Neil's appearance at the DB concert in AKL a few years back.
The fun starts around the 4 minute mark

I'm so excited about the new Flying Num website. There are a few titles I've been after for years, so I'll be keeping an eager eye on the shop for back catalogue rereleases.
In the meantime, here's a searing live-to-air version of he Straitjacket Fits song "A.P.S".

Hi Russell, is Media 7 still on the iTunes feed - there's been nothing via podcast for 10 days, which is a shame...
-
Also, go look at Reuben Sutherland's gorgeous new video for the Phoenix Foundation's 'Pot'.
I do love Phoenix Foundation's atmospheric vibe. As soon as I heard Pot, I thought how beautifully it makes manifest the idea of an ensemble. Such gorgeous harmonies. Yum.

During the week I heard Riki Gooch, aka Eru Dangerspiel talking on bFM about the release of the live CD/DVD Great News For The Modern Man: Live At the Auckland Town Hall. October concerts coming also, which I will be trying to get tickets to before they sell out.
The Phoenix album is on high rotate in our house, and gets better with age.

They always look like they are having a lot of fun, those fellas.

Good to see that Roger is using the free WordPress dot com service. Work in progress is the best way to go. I call it live prototyping and most projects can be live in a few minutes although we often password them for a while :)
Sola Rosa uses "self hosted" version from wordpress.org
Sola Rosa Blog incidentally
(shameless plug alert here) for anyone who is exploring online websites, blogging, publishing, new media and platforms wordcamp.org.nz is happening in just over a weeks time at Unitec Mt Albert.BrightMindLabs is another local site using WordPress. "Teaching Children with Asperger’s to recognize and respond to emotions" via a gaming approach. Fraser Hurrell from BrightMindLabs will be at wordcamp.
There are a good dozen non- profits coming along and as the event is very much user generated some will be presenting.
speakers at wordcamp As one of the organisers I very pleased that we have Richard Hollingum talking about the wider vision for TEDx Auckland.
Many readers will know Sacha Dylan who is also a presenter "encourage broadening ideas about who your audiences are made up of, drawing on some demographic data."

I was sent a wonderful p**take clip about Newport, South Wales (based on JayZ's New York) but I can't seem to shift it here.
Has anyone heard the latest release from Arcade Fire yet?
I feel like it is Friday as I am on to the concluding paragraph of a 7,500 word chapter for a Te Papa Press book on NZ film history ( I am doing the Peter Jackson era). I was late ring-in for a writer who dropped out and have had one month to write it (the other contributers had months).

The Armed Offenders Squad?
;-) -
The Armed Offenders Squad
Actually that would be a great band name - just think of the posters around town and the 1000s of similarly dressed kids who would show up to shows
-
Actually that would be a great band name
I'm sure Dawn Raid would welcome them with open Arms.
;-) -
Ta for the mention, Jason - and my appreciation for your hard work pulling the WordCamp event together too.

So I went to the Flying Nun shop for a looksee. I clicked on The Verlaines and wondered what songs were on 'Juvenilia' since all my Verlaines is on, currently unplayable, original '80's vinyl it would enable me to get some of my old favourites onto my iPod. So I clicked on the album and there is space for a track listing, but it is empty. So even if they won't post to Scotland and I have to get the kid at uni in Dunedin to get it for me I'm not interested in taking a punt on the offchance. Also be nice to get the back catalogue out on CD. Be cheaper than trying find a decent turntable rig for all my vinyl. Then I can flog my original discs of Hallelujah All The Way Home, Send You, Tuatara and yes, that 'infamous' Dunedin EP.
Come on Roger, marks for effort, more to do, please. Also if you can persuade Apple to put the stuff on the UK iTunes site I would be very grateful, not to mention much poorer, but happier.

For Geoff:

"Chips, cheese, curry makes you feel brand new".
Straight to T-Shirt please. Now!
-
"Big Leeks will inspire you"
Nice little item on Christopher Hitchens last night on Media 7.
His book is a fun read. But its a bit of a stretch at the end when he tries to claim he saw the WMD's in Iraq while there with Wolfowitz. And Rachel Lang seems nice, if a bit defensive about her projects. Its only tele we are allowed to love or hate stuff for no good reason. And leave it at that.

Well it is Friday and I just had to pass this on ..... I just had to call NZ Post's international parcel service 800 number and was put on hold .... maybe it's a case of 'unclear on the (marketing) concept' but they played me Split Enz's "6 months in a leaky boat" for about 10 minutes
