Mark's just got a longer fuse for people like Chuck, perhaps because he hasn't met him elsewhere, and doesn't know what to expect.
It's strange over here, when people have a discussion, you'll see one person talking at a time, and they go on and on, you come back an hour later and it's the same person talking, then it's the turn of the next person to talk for an age. They air their views and they listen, and there's very little of this trying to change another's mind or make them see reason, it seems to be based on a collective understanding that anyone's opinion is a valid as your own.

On Radio Live one of the hosts this evening said he would give $500 to the Autism New Zealand and $500 to charity of Bill Ralston's choice (proper charity not Prego Staff Fund) if Bill and Russell Brown would duke it out in boxing ring. Mike King has said would match amounts and be ref - (25oz gloves).
Think they have missed the point. Though their take is that Russell and Bill have 'issues'.

I guess personalising an argument means you never have to take the trouble to understand what it is about - or admit that you don't know how to.

but in keeping with what Yamis said about Korea, DV is definitely a problem here too. Banging on the walls is an easier solution than calling the police. Generally the family is accorded total responsibility for solving these problems as opposed to the police force. Tonight millions will meet for new years celebrations, they'll eat, drink and then talk about their lives with family members until dawn. the annual counseling session.

O, and I really like a large number of Cohen's songs.
When my younger sibling Mary Emma died last year, "Halleujah" was *her" song of exit at the crematorium.It was an additional joy that the Bose went on the blink when we ried to play it ultra loud here in ANZ as she was being cremated-

I don't want a bar of religion myself, but I can see what others get out of it. A lot like alcohol, really. Not to my taste, leads to a lot of harm, but a lot of people love it, and that's good enough for me.

My sister Mary Emma was a very elegant opinionated hardworking nurse.
Who smoked like the proverbial chimney.
Who loved dogs (huskies.)
And fine china & glass.
She was #4 in the family and the only person my fey father expressed a worry about, on his death bed(in 1956.)
She always wanted children
Unfortunately, like all my sisters, she had endometriosis.
So, with the cool objectivity ALL my family has, she went for the dogs (and cats.) Wholeheartedly.
I have some of her treasures.
I was astonished to learn she collected dictionaries.
I thought I was the only one in the family who did that.
We were estranged from a long time back.
We were starting to come to - an understanding- in 2007.
She died in September that year.
I dont know.
I really dont know.
But I love Cohen's words & music. -

I know what you mean. I feel the same about those lucky bastards who saw Neil Young at BDO.
I have done a review of LC's Auckland concert and it should be on kiwiboomers sometime soon.

(It was expensive, but worth every cent - currently listening to the man - Hallelujah, which is so far above Wainwright's version... and I liked that one. )

Quite a spectacular failure to understand from the Radio Live people concerned...are they really that stupid?
Bearing in mind that it's probably likely to played up by the media every time you and Bill so much as sneeze in opposite directions , I wonder if opposing sides of a charity debate might be a better considerably better use of skillsets and a better example. It might also put an end to the idea echoing around dd infinitum.

Frankly, I think both Russell and Bill have better things to do with their time. To be Pollyana-ish for a moment, if gossip columnists and talkback tards are talking about people who are media-savvy enough to extend a middle finger and move on, they're leaving alone other people whose skins might not be as thick.
It might also put an end to the idea echoing around dd infinitum.
Forgetting the wise proverb about what empty heads and drums have in common -- the bigger they are, the more noise they make.

Yup, I hear ya.
If the media, or anyone else for that matter wants to hype it up and there's not personal animosity, why not make the most out that free publicity by raising some cash for a very good cause and proving that you're better than they suggest in the form a civilised & amusing debate.
Ride that wave....just be aware that there are strings....actually those strings may well exist already for Russell.
Then there’s the whole Dawkins-like notion of diluting your legitimacy/making them seem legitimate by sharing a stage with the illegitimate/evil/stupid.
I suspect that the idea of animosity won’t go away by itself. It will get trotted out during those slow weeks, or when someone has an axe to grind.

there was an interesting interview with John Gray replayed on Kim Hill's RNZ show over the weekend labelled "on the Death of utopia".
I think that stuff is a lot more comprehensible in an audio format.
