  • Rich of Observationz,

CRT monitors *are* corrected for hemisphere - at least some are and some can be adjusted.

When doing high-end photoshop work, people usually calibrate their monitor (LCD or CRT) against a Pantone card. This ensures that the blue that comes out the printer matches the blue that the camera saw. A photographer would know more about this.

  • Kyle Matthews,

I've heard Yanis's idea before, that in a society in rural-urban transition (like modern China) having brown skin is a mark of being part of the "primitive" rural masses rather than a "sophisticated" urbanite. It would be interesting to see if this was the case in 18th Century Europe, for instance.

And earlier. It was very big in the court of Elizabeth I to use white makeup.

  • mark taslov,

Nice work posting those icons Russell, enjoyed them, only one which left me scratching head was the 'me', which seemed to conveniently overlook the absolute ego machine that is the one child policy child. or maybe that small sized me was merely the reflection of grandma in the eye of an 80s kid.

  • Jackie Clark,

Simplistic the icons may be, but I think they speak to some of the major percieved differences in viewpoints.

  • Mark Thomas,

as a barely competent amateur photographer, my understanding is that we get exactly the same monitors in NZ as everywhere else, and it's up to the user to calibrate it to suit.

the lighting in the room is what is relevant - i don't think many people use their TV/computer outside in the sunshine. it depends on the light bulbs, the reflected light off your walls, light shining in thru the window, time of day etc.

but you're right, we get heaps more UV here in NZ, due to the lack of haze. I noticed it when i stepped out of the airport in Auckland after 4 years in the UK. dazzling
