  • Rob Hosking,

Loretta Swit played a formidable US female president on the film version of 'Whoops Apocalypse'.

None of it on Youtube, unfortunately. There is though a magnificent bit of Peter Cook as a British PM trying to stamp out the real causes of unemployment.

  • Jake Pollock,

One day, I will invent a cure for trolling, and then I will be a millionaire.

Thank you. I had spent good money in booze to try to forget that particular show.

Surely you could have just hit yourself on the head?

But the burning question, which I suggest we occupy ourselves with until at least Sunday, in lieu of anything more interesting and pertinent to our own immediate futures, is what kind of puppy will the kids get?

  • mark taslov,

well mixing it up would have been a little more interesting, very little written here this year about Ralph Nadar. understandably... I don't know, i just find it hard to read things that are so one sided. Sure it's a leftwing site, and i piss in that direction, but that doesn't leave much space for unchummy discourse.. hence the malcontent aired today at the mildest issuance of disloyalty to the site protocol.

  • Rob Hosking,

what i like most about mark's posts is the way they kind of break into rap, or modern poetry

I was thinking it was more the way JP Donleavy used to finish chapters, especially if the characters were having sex.

  • mark taslov,

because i like the name eleanor, reminds me of the four term FDR, and the impossible dream that somehow obama (assuming he's as good as everyone's hoping he'll be) could somehow lift the two term limit.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Anyone know what publication had the "behind the scenes on election day with the Obama's" reporters? Embedded journalism that I'd quite like to see, stage managed as it may be.
    Time perhaps?

Newsweek, I think. The last two editions, dedicated to the campaigns, were pure poli-geek porn.

  • Emma Hart,

    and the way
    there is a total
    lack
    of punctuation or capitalisation
    its like readiing
    e e cummings but
    crap<quote>

*applauds* I have a soft spot for cu... oh crap, there's a sentence I'd best not finish.

<quote>Yeah... I was thinking, "why is he picking on ME so much?"

I was mostly worried about you being held responsible for stuff I said.

  • Gareth Ward,

what kind of puppy will the kids get?

The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals wrote to the Obamas saying that a purebred would be “elitist.”

  • Craig Ranapia,

Imagine if McCain had had a connection, however tenuous, with Eric Rudolf, the abortion clinic bomber. People would have gone spastic about it and quite correctly.

Fucking Nora's low-hanging tittie, do you really want to argue that McCain's collection of endorsements from batshit apocalyptic anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic pastors got even one percent of the media attention Jeremiah Wright did? Bitch, please... I am too tired to suffer fools, but will make them suffer.

  • mark taslov,

except that he didn't waste too much time on capitalisation....
which is a total waste of juice 90% of the time.

Hey Emma, it was a pertinent point, I didn't mind plagiarizing by default. :o)

  • TroyHoward,

Obama is NOT the first BPOTUS.

He is however the first 1/2BPOTUS.

    True/False?

  • mark taslov,

    Obama is only half black?

    Te Ika-a-Māui • Since Mar 2008 • 2281 posts Report Reply

  • Gareth Ward,

    Troy - False.
Black is pretty definitional in the US. They don't really do half/half. He's certainly got about the best claim I've ever heard to the term "African/American"though!

  • Sam F,

Good point, I suppose - but how in that case would you define a 100% BPOTUS? Things could get kind of silly if you're going to chasing back through family histories.

  • Angus Robertson,

Which 3rd world country will be the first to bombed under the Obama presidency?

Sudan - to solve the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.
Pakistan - the just part of the GWoT.
    Iran - they have/haven't a nuclear program.
Somalia, Haiti, the Balkans - reprising the Clinton years.

And more importantly, will Syria remain as the last to be bombed under Bush?

Mark: The only way to do that is repeal the Twenty Second Amendment to the Constitution. As an advocate of same-sex marriage, I've good reason to be thankful that Article Five deliberately set the bar high enough that it is difficult, and slow, to clear.

Guys do I really need to stay awake long enough to explain how that ever so slightly offensive. What the hell is this, apartheid era South Africa and we're quibbling over the point where you're too black to be coloured, too coloured to be white, and whether you're good enough at rugby to he an honorary honky for a couple of weeks.
