It's a shame we won't all be as excited on Saturday about out own election.
-
Sarah Palin has "limited political experience", TV One commentator informs us. So now you know.
I'm sorry, but Paul Henry's visit to Wasilla was pretty damning. It looked like one of those tiny places you stop for petrol at, on the Napier/Taupo highway.
-
CNN now gives 81 Electoral votes to Obama - the North eastern seaboard is pleasantly blue

This one's way more important, even for Kiwis.

The thread won't be as big here because we'll all be out partying. Right?
-
CNN finally projects Pennsylvania.

Damning for Henry. He's got to go to Wasilla not to look like a leaky drool cup? (And once again: Thank you Ms. Beyer for keeping this boob out of Parliament and the National caucus. I'm still suffering post-Brian Connell traumatic stress syndrome.)
BTW, while I can take the revered colour scheme in stride, am I the only person who needs to keep reminding myself that counties in the US are not like electorates here, where the population is (roughly) evenly distributed?

Popular vote is basically locked together, over 7 million votes each, only 6 million between them. Probably Obama will slip under in the 'flyover' states, and then trounce back out West and finish ahead by maybe 10 million.

Oi, I will if it's a 5 headed pinata. It would then be a true kiwi democracy.

Nah... going to be having a quiet one and resting up for the days ahead -- the howls of anguish, exploding blood vessels and sounds of faecal matter hitting fans no matter what the outcome. The only question is whether the nutroots are going to be losing all their shit at Kiwibog or The Standard.
-
Nope, I just had a WTF moment realising that Vermont gets only one congressional seat while Rhode Island gets two
Strange system...

They haven't added them onto his electoral college totals though. Still says 81 at the top of the page, should be 102.
-

Both, of course. Why should they change habits now?
We, of course, will be giving matters serious consideration, because that's how things are done here at PAS

Obama won Connecticut, Delaware, Washington DC, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New Jersey, while McCain won Oklahoma and Tennessee.
AP is predicting Obama will take the crucial state of Pennsylvania and NBC is giving him a lead of 103 to 34.

Yup. But also, people I know out in the real world are interested in that. When it comes to US politics I just hang out on the net with all the other geeks.
-
Now says 102
-
The general numbers are interesting but has anyone come across the demographics anywhere?
Also, what's with the entertainment at the McCain party? It looks like a Christian rock band is playing now. At the Obamam party it's just a big (possibly high) crowd

Yeah, speak for oneself there . . . I'm way excited about our election. I have a dream of John Key getting the most votes but not being able to form a government because no-one likes him or his party. Ahhhh . . . I'll just close my eyes and enjoy that for a moment. I'm also looking forward to the frothing right spouting about the country being held to ransom while the Maori Party have their week-long post-election hui to decide who to support. It's going to be great and it's going to last at least 7-10 days I reckon.

Dems now have 7 senate seats, reps 4 24 undecided

Not really. Very basically, House seats are distributed on a population-based formula. In the 2006 census Vermont had a population of 623,908, while Rode Island's was 1,067,610. The really weird thing is that both states get exactly the same number of Senators as California - with a population of just over 36.5 million and a House delegation of fifty six.
-
Mark:
Not that strange. Rhode Island has more people in it than Vermont.

Or flinging a better class of poo at exquisitely stylish fitting. :)

Snap, Craig.
On another note, from Glenn Greenwald @ Salon:
"For those hungry for a nice schadenfreude orgy, it's now getting very safe to turn to Fox. Bill Kristol -- after Fox projected NH for Obama -- just said, very somberly, that it's going to be a very bad night for Republicans and that between this election and 2006, it's one of the worst two-year periods for any political party, and Fred Barnes looks like he's about to cry. And there's still plenty of bad news for them to come.
The funereal aura is starting to set in over there. Concentrate on how much destruction they've sown and it will be quite pleasurable to watch."
Heh. I know a good recipie for Schadenfreude Pie
-
I'm just feeling Freude personally, and hope to upgrade to Feurwerkenfreude tonight.
-
Yes, nothing gets the taste of fear and humiliation out of your mouth like schadenfreude pie.
One little thing can revive a guy,
And that is home-made schadenfreude pie.
Serve it up, nice and hot.
Maybe things aren't as bad as you thought.
