Experiment have seen meme??????????
-
LHC works!
So much for the end of the universe then. :o) -
A historically significant moment, I guess, but I would like to see something more tangible--say, Rodney Hide colliding with with a large boulder ;-)
-
Post have suggested T-Shirt.

It seems fitting that CERN, where the World Wide Web was germinated, should deliver witness to the greatest moment of its history via that same web.
Which is what I was moved to tweet - quite a surreal feeling

Oh, and love the cake

It really tickles me that many of my (male) twitter pals following this were tooting about the dress sense (or lack thereof) of the scentists.
I'm not sure if there was some sort of expectation that the scentists would be all dressed like something out of the Matrix, or perhaps rocking the 1960s NASA control room nerd look, but it seems that their less-than-styley threads were almost as notable as the business happening in Hadrian's Collider.

Somebody set up us the experiment.
All your collisions are belong to us.
-
the dress sense (or lack thereof) of the scentists.
At least they didn't have headcrabs.
I missed all this from '08 (might not have appreciated it anyway) so here's
Gordon Freeman spotted at CERN
and later
training with the wrecking bar he was susequently sent. All very internet, indeed.

some of those on screen appeared to have got dressed in the dark

They do realise these guys are scientists and engineers, right? Lack of dress sense and 'interesting' hair kind of come with the territory....

I love physics.

Now Russell. I have a bone to pick. Bloody typical media geek stereotyping the physicists of the world. Some of my best friends I work alongside down here get dressed in the dark everyday! And I find nothing wrong with getting dressed in the dark as well. Granted, it is worse in the winter. That is why I only have matching tops and bottoms in the pile beside the bed so that at least I can be sure what ever gets picked and overserted on the body is 'acceptable" to my fellow physicists. Sometimes the washing gets mixed up and the odd day turns out to be...well...odd looking. But it's the science, the science my friend! THAT is what it is all about. Who gives a shit about the tee shirt!
CERN is right into colour these days and are sucking up with the media with their charm offence in a big way. Things are on the up! They are getting down to it. 2/3rds of everything they make will be going to charity.
Even Sheldon is excited!

sorry... it seemed inevitable
Haha, awesome. And I lol'd when I saw /b/ in there...

Yo, mine was rocking a pinny this morning. </boast>
I should add that it was indeed a Large Hadron Cake. Half as tall as it was wide. I'm usually the cake queen, and even I was impressed at how seriously this one contested the laws of physics and baking powder.

boomdeyada boomdeyada etc
I love this bakery!

What will the Red Cross or Amnesty International do with a whole pile of Higgs' Bosons?
-

...and I presume you mean QCD?
-
While I think your choice is correct, what about http://xkcd.com/401/ ?
the cake is a lie
See, and there's another joke about a game I haven't played that I get.
-
I blame sci-fi for creating expectations that televised geeks in any "control room" setting will at least wear matching uniforms, even if they are polyester.
-
...and I presume you mean QCD?
BANG on Duckie. Quark Quark!

If the whole thing blows up might have to turn the Big Hose On.

/threadjack that's sort of related...
my Alzheimer's has set in early today - I recently read a post or comment - I think here on PA that outlined the way scientists interact and comment on each other's work.... but can't for the life of me find it. I want to send it to someone - can any one help me out by pointing to it?
Thanks
