Maybe gravatar uses a cache, or the other services do, and it takes a while to catch up
-
anth,
RB's gravatar was still normal until moments ago even from a machine which has never seen it before. So yeah, cached somewhere other than locally.
I guess I should go make a gravatar too.

@ I/S
Yes, there has to be some kind of protest that has wide-reaching effects to bring the attention of the wider-world who simply don't know or care as yet, but should.
Your idea of turning internet access off for a day also has the added value of being somewhat more grown up and legal than the DoS jest...
-
Acts of civil disobedience are far more likely to be effective.
Shutting off the internet? If done deliberately they'd be breaching contracts left right and centre.
Hmmm, thinking. And wondering if my avatar will show up black.

Breaking News
Mark Harris finally gets Black Gravatar, Copyright Bill DOOMEDYeah right.
Just stop buying CDs for a month, don't go to the movies for a month.
Stick it to 'em where it hurts, in their greedy pockets. -
DoSing Parliament? That would be entertaining.
-
Recording Industry Association chief executive Campbell Smith says the code is "inadequate" and does not go far enough toward protecting the interests of copyright holders.
He says it would be too easy for internet users to dispute piracy allegations under procedures set out by the forum. "Then the process stops dead and we are concerned about that."
Mr Smith also objects to the forum's suggestion that copyright holders should meet ISPs' administration costs for handling infringement notices.

How about DoSing Campbel Smith, he's begining to make Garth McVicar look like Ghandi.

Steve ;-)

Yeah, that tiresome due process and having to prove an allegation is all criminal-coddling bullshit. Of course, we've never ever seen trivial and vexatious litigation being used as a way to shut down competition or criticism, have we?
-
Not a Dunne deal?
"However, it is now clear that we have a situation where internet users are vulnerable to the mere accusation of piracy, and that is simply neither fair nor just."
The Government should defer the section's implementation for three to six months with a view to discarding it, Mr Dunne said.
Tis true that grave injustice engenders odd bed fellows. -
Just stop buying CDs for a month, don't go to the movies for a month.
I don't do either anyway, so no point.
-
DoSing Parliament? That would be entertaining.
That would be illegal. A day of "unexplained technical faults", OTOH...
-
From Scoop
I know people get Scoop and Stuff confused, but in the same link?

And if you want to get into bed with Peter Dunne you can do so Here

Hmmm. My black gravatar ain't showing on Twitter.
To be honest, if the revolution only happens on Twitter, a bunch of us are going to be saying "Bugger off! I am so sick of your one-sided-don't-know-what-the-other-half-is-saying revolution!"
-
Two things.
1) I see black boxes and I didn't need to do anything. The other boxes that don't have black have dark grey images. I'm no geek. But as a statement and political online action it's slightly disconcerting having black boxes down the screen. Kinda black, know what I'm saying? Perhaps have a statement to go with the gravatar?
2) I'm, oh fuck it, disabled. I hate that word. I HATE it. But sometimes (rarely) I'm gunna play the fucken card 'k cause sometimes ya have to. I'm deaf. Born that way. And I found Rodney Hide's prattling and annoying whine telling some twit that he didn't need to build according to the law because he had to put in a disabled toilet, fucken offensive.
"Disabled" policy from what I can see (I don't pay it much attention - why should I be reminded of my loss, not my abilities?) attempts to acknowledge disabilities, but from the perspective of the abled - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Like much policy really.
Hope the single malt shifted the viewpoint if Sascha and the other dude were 'abled'. If they were 'disabled', hope they solved the disabled's worlds problems and had a good laugh at the same time.

if the revolution only happens on Twitter
All together now: the revolution will not be twittered!
-
Perhaps have a statement to go with the gravatar?
That's coming soon. For now, it's just mysterious black boxen ...
2) I'm, oh fuck it, disabled. I hate that word. I HATE it.
Gotcha there. But sometimes it's the only word that everyone understands.

Sacha has an arthritic condition that led him into full-time consultancy in the sector and he's very good value. The other guy was abled, but web geeks have an innate bias towards accessibility.
Also, funniest thing overheard on Saturday night:
"So the guy said, I'm sorry but you're just not autistic enough for this job."
Heh.

Foo, great. Many many thanks to the organisers. My only problem was that I was (on Friday at least) a bit too frazzled/late to communicate. Met some of the PA writers I had not met before and was barely able to string a sentence together.
Well it didn't show, Don. And for some reason, listening about it instead of reading about it caused me to make a whole bunch of connections between copyright and censorship that I previously hadn't. (Logical objections to unworkable aspects are countered with 'somebody think of the children/starving artists' emotional blackmail bullshit.)
I, um, may have enjoyed myself quite a lot. In my defense, all those people had to die. I was just doing my job.

@ Russell
Thanks for that - good to hear.

Stick it to 'em where it hurts, in their greedy pockets.YFR!
They'll just blame it on "t3h p1rat3z!" and use it to justify demanding further draconian measures to protect their dying business model. It's an unfortunate situation that the ordinary measure available to consumers to express displeasure with a company/industry simply plays right into the hands of big media by giving them diminished sales figures to wave at the pollie tubbies as they seek new-and-improved copyright law to further-criminalise their erstwhile customers.Plus, unless the boycott is long-term, people just catch up their purchasing once the term is over. It's one of the big flaws in the "boycott petrol purchases for a day" theory for getting petrol prices down. People just defer the spending and the impact is negated. It needs to be a long-term, nation-wide boycott for it to hurt enough. And, of course, they'll just rush off to the pliant pollies, wail and gnash, and get served up more statutory delays of their inevitable-and-long-overdue demise.

Emma Hart is a werewolf
And I was just trying to come to terms with her as a green Orion slave girl! -
@ Russell
Thanks for that - good to hear.Good to know where you're at too, Christopher. I aim for PA to be a very disability=diversity friendly place, so feel free to send me links or even think of a guest post if you're moved.
