If I go to make a donation (Paypal) - I end up appearing to donate to something called "dubwise". This does not look very legit to me!!!

I ain't got no money, honey, but I figure I could spare a little for one of my favourite blogs.
And honestly, anything that gets us closer to the food blog can only be a good thing.

Don't worry - that's the correct account. You'll note the contact email address for the Paypal account is Russell's email.

it's Russell's trading company

Hi Russell,
This looks great. I have signed up and I hope lots of other readers of Public Address do so also.
Personally I definitely received $10 worth of value out of Public Address each month and I expect that if they think about it so do several hundred of your readers.
Ten dollars a month is not a lot to pay for a community that is in your place, talks about your stories, genuinely reflects your values and offers you the opportunity to participate in fascinating public policy debates.
I wish this effort the best possible start.

That’s Dubwise Arrangements, the name of my company and the name the Paypal account’s in (I could have changed the destination account to the new Public Address one, but that sort of thing just invites a world of pain on Paypal). Totally legit.

I no longer sub to any NZ printed news formats, and have only one or 2 subs for specialty mags (photography etc). As Alastair says above, I definitely get value from PA, across all the contributors, both directly and also where they channel my further investigation of issues, ideas and concepts on the net. All success to you, and I hope the $25/mth helps.

Subscriber and proud of it, my friend!

Moz,
For us in forn parts the transaction costs on a subscription can get quite out of hand. I pay something like $2.50 in fees every time I spend foreign currency, so a one-off makes more sense. But yes, fair value received.
FWIW, Capture doesn't interest me even slightly, I've skimmed a couple of posts but I assume it's popular with others. But other things grab me. More Emma and Jolisa :)
Patreon, unfortunately, seem to be functionally illiterate (or perhaps that's their target market). Is there some kind of explanation of what they do that doesn't involve YouTube?

Feel free to suggest any other improvements we could consider
Automating the markup text would be a good start.

What do you mean by 'automating'?

Very glad to have the opportunity to subscribe at last. My first online subscription apart from a- since cancelled- Nat Geo one a few years ago (and better value I reckon).
Would love an answer to my regularly posted question about not seeming to be able to Like Soundcloud tracks in HardNews posts when using my iPad.

Oh, sorry. That will be a matter of the Soundcloud embed code. I’m still using the old code mostly because the new embeds (which I suspect are mobile-friendly) are just so bloody big. That might be a reason to change, right there.

Being a week by week sort of guy, I have lodged an AP every Tuesday to the PA account.

Thank you!
And I was wondering where you were, subscription-nagger-in-chief :-)

Someone’s asked whether they can pay a sum of their choosing for an annual sub and get a tax invoice for it. YES, no problem. Just click the email link below the post and let me know
-
I'm hoping my monthly PayPal receipt will suffice for tax purposes.

Huge sigh!! It's only a small amount per month, but I've finally figured out how to do it. I once used Paypal, in 2012, with a different address, no longer used. For a simple old lady like me it's been just too much for me to work out - they wanted my old security questions. Favourite teacher ?I dunno. Favourite restaurant? Tee hee.
So I've done an automatic payment from my bank, with an end date 1 year from now.
PA has been too important in my life, especially since my lovely died, for me to think of not having it.

Thank you, that means a lot.

Just waiting on a masthead.

That's really nice to hear. Thank you.

Subscribed. Well worth it for the amount of time I spend here! Thanks Russell for all the work you do on Public Address.

I've been a keen Hard News/Public Address reader for well over a decade now. You were my source of NZ News when we were living in Australia for 11 years. More than happy to send some well deserved financial support your way now.

To be precise, highlighting text and clicking on a button to generate markup.
-
I chose the donation option because, like Moz says above, the foreign currency transaction fees can get pretty hefty in a subscription arrangement.
Still, I'm happy to contribute. (Only a modest amount this time, I'm afraid.)
Public Address is all kinds of good.
