merc,
And then you kiss his ring.
-
Paul Henry asked BT yesterday on Radio Live if it was okay to call him 'Brian'. BT said it was. The long-winded way Henry asked the question he was clearly taking the piss; which BT probably realised but -hey- that's the trade off for airtime, eh BT?

the correct formal address for a bishop is "My Lord"
Or Bishop. I suspect in the Destiny Church, just Bishop. But when you meet him, feel free to go with "My Lord".

Ridley:
Golly, I need to order another book of reality checks... but I'm as bored to sobs by all this 'Jonkey' balls from the left as I am by the 'Helen Klark' childishness from the right, and I've probably wasted far too much time and energy calling out right-wingnuts on it.
And just for the record, anyone who cares to pop over the PA Radio page and listen to my first contribution will find I took the piss out of both Key and Clark on an entirely non-partisan basis. In fact, if you want to run a stop watch over it I might even have spent more time slapping around the leader of the party I happen to vote for.
Bloody hell, my spelling's not the best (ay, Darryl?) but I can do a reasonable impersonation of an adult now and then. I also do try and pay people the courtesy of not ripping what they say so far out of context - or just making shit up - it verges on psychosis.

The boy doth protest too much, methinks.
And with an increasing level of insult. "I can't be wrong, my opponents must be [insert insult]" is not the most edifying argument you have ever made, Craig.
-
yeah go for it Craig
-
Malcolm:
Methinks someone who calls a thirty-five year old man "boy" doth not have standing to get Miss Manners on anyone's arse.
-
I'm sorry if you find "boy" offensive. Not intended, and happily withdrawn. I did think it better than the original shakespeare.
I went back and re-read these posts. It’s pretty clear , your original ‘joke’ only works if Mrs Peter Davies was somehow the most technically correct title for Helen Clark. Let me quote.
“if you really want to be petantic about 'legitimate' titles, shouldn't we be referring to the Prime Minister as Mrs Peter Davies”
Now that is clearly not the case, and some people found the suggestion offensively sexist (fair enough). Your response has effectively been
… can’t you take a joke
… you don’t get it so you must be stupid
… you are insulting other people
… you have a reading disability
… you are verging on the psychoticI tried to draw your attention to this in a polite fashion. Now let me be more direct. You are out of line. I think you need to take a deep breath, and back off. An apology would also be in order.

I think BT is selling himself short.
He is a cult leader of a nation wide 'movement'. (Cult watch called it a cult. That didn't just come from my distaste for snake oil salesmen)
Surely he should be calling him self the Messiah.I think we should encourage him. The more obscured the title, the more people will dismiss him.

I'm calling THEATRE!
-
merc,
Ditto, this is GREAT THEATRE, my hearts racing!
-
merc,
Yes, I have two hearts...for eveyone, the black heart and the red one...damn possessive apostrophe.
-
The more obscured the title
Bloody spell checker, that was meant to be absurd, not obscured. lol
-
merc,
I prefer obscured, let it stand for the record My Lord.
-
i call theatre with a question.
malcolm. is that gravatar the flying spagetti monster by any chance?
if so, good choice. the bishop of a hundred lovers would never approve.
-
I prefer obscured, let it stand for the record My Lord.
I was more self impressed with my movement pun.
-
looks like the flying spag monster to me.
-
No, this is the Flying Spaghetti Monster and in German.
*Takes off Red nose and floppy shoes*
Tamaki puts me in a difficult position. On one hand people can believe what they want to and call themselves want they want. Leave me alone and I will leave them alone. The term bishop is also not confined to one Christian belief, anyone can actually call themselves one. BUT it legitimises him undeservedly in the same manner as degrees from "Online University, your virtual academy" and thus I don't want to call him "Bishop".
On balance I would use the title if he wanted it but still attack his ideas since that is more important than dissing his job description. -
Or Bishop. I suspect in the Destiny Church, just Bishop. But when you meet him, feel free to go with "My Lord".
That's convenient, because normally my reaction to him is "My lord... what is that idiot on about now?". Or other "biblical" words.
-
Che: Yep. Always best to post under a symbol of truth and enlightment, don't you think?
-
Bishop Malcolm, Bishop Heather, Bishop Deborah, Bishop Kyle, Bishop Hamboy, Arch Overlord Mercurius, Bishop Eusa and Bishop Che, truth and enlightenment are indeed the best guides.
All Hail Bishop Russell of Timaru for providing a Holy space to make such observances.Yours,
Bishop Riddley (it's ok, my cat made me one) -
I'm glad you left me out of that Riddley, because unlike the Baronesses mentioned earlier, I have decided to adopt & use the title "Baron" from now on.

The Baron stutters.

Part of being a bishop is not knowing what an elephant is, thus I must respectfully turn down the post.
Arabic al-fīl means "the elephant", but in Europe and the western part of the Islamic world people knew little or nothing about elephants, and the name of the chessman entered Western Europe as Latin alfinus and similar, a word with no other meaning (in Spanish, for example, it evolved to the name "alfil"). The English name "bishop" is a rename inspired by the conventional shape of the piece. In Russia, the piece is, however, known as slon, that is, "the elephant."
Possibly you misheard your cat who was saying "More fish up here".
:)
