  • mark taslov,

I'm miffed my last post was deleted, I thought I had a reasonable point. Even more so that it's still kept in my post count.

  • Morgan Nichol,

Why aren't assets (as written down values) being confiscated or salaries garnisheed once the bill gets to $1000?

Yes, they should bloody-well confiscate his car. Kill two birds with one stone, as it were.

You remember it's just (or at least mainly?) for PARKING TICKETS right? You know, not burglary, or rape, or murder, or muggings. PARKING TICKETS.

Not terribly serious as offending goes.

Doesn't even disqualify one from being a police officer.

At least no one suggested lashes, which came up pretty quickly on kiwiblog. (Yes, I know that I should know better than to read kiwiblog.)

    PARKING TICKETS.

Yes, thanks Morgan, I was beginning to think I was visiting Killbog. I remember Melissa Lee was pulled up one night on the Back benchers programme, for parking in the disabled spot, to which she replied " I was only parked on yellow lines to use my phone" At least Havoc was prepared to go to court over his. :)

  • Rich of Observationz,

C'mon, if it was Lhaws with $20k in parking tickets, then I think we'd all be calling for scaphism, as a minimum..

    No, but as I recall mine went something a little like this;

A justice system with no semblance of meaning. What after all is a car park for other than to collect money and provide parking space? If either of these points were relevant they would have confiscated the Hav's car about 10,000 fines ago. Instead we have the Government shirking responsibility on both counts:

    "We need more DJs"

I was really planning on making post 994 a cracker instead of a lame rewrite of lameness.

Yeah, but what sort of community service could he provide in exchange - verbally abusing people for free?

He should just be made to do exactly what he does now, except wearing a clown costume at all times.

Ha, I'd like to think not but ...
I like havoc for all his eccentricities so would even prefer the likes of Lhaws to show a human side once in a while.
Let the man DJ for the community service.Let the Herald pick their act up.

Works for me. Mind you, so does the mascara workshop; I could use some tips.

  • DexterX,

Good on Havoc for doing something – it is not a scandal, it is sensible and there is no crime. The Hos have tried to make “it” salacious and dedicated far too many column inches to what should only warrant a passing blurb.

There are more pressing issues for us all – isn't the real scandal the manner in which Auckland City goes about fining everything that moves - over 50 metres in a bus lane, parking etc, etc.

Matters will only get worse - during the boom local government has ballooned and now in the recession there is this massive bureaucracy that no longer has the basis to support itself and it has to come after someone and that some one will be “us”.

I agree with Gareth’s comments on today’s Herald editorial, which should have been titled “God Defend Infratil”.

Can’t you see it Infratil getting their mitts on the NZ Super Fund and then using those funds to take control of what were local body infrastructure assets and then running them in the same manner they run Auckland buses.

I assume Rodney Hide's role is to gift-wrap places like Metro Water for Infratil and others.

The standard of journalism is criminal.

  • conseismal,

it may or may not be apposite for the community present-to-itself at this time to compare the idea that (in this instance) 'celebrity is exploited, it doesn't exploit itself' with the idea of internet 'trolls', and in this respect i offer up the following comment
"I am not trying to troll anyone, but the more people think I am, the more it becomes a natural response" (which was found midst commentary on the musician Bon Iver, and made by a fellow who has very poignant questions to ask about the formation-of-opinion about music(s) indeed, yet is roundly resisted or ignored by persons who just wanna go BLAAAH all the time), and i even had the thought that you chaps may well find it nourishing to issue me with parking tickets - in whatever form you conceive the issuance of these to manifest itself properly - for every minute 'beyond my welcome' i do spend signifrying here in your pan..

..in hopes of complexifying the convo as always

  • nz native,

parking fines ............ parking wardens also have the power to give out no rego and no warrent fines which come in at about $200 or $250 each, that can bump up fine totals very quickly.

And the courts departments defaults and penalty fee's are very close to a racket ......

I myself have had experience in doing community service for fines. My fines were substantial but below five figures.

I could have paid "the man" but would much rather spend my money on my family and kids

So I did what Micky did but without a lawyer. I basically jacked up my own community service for a worthy community service provider.

My community service did consist of pretty hard work ( picking up and dropping of goods donated or items sold in the charity's shop, this often meant moving things like sofa's and beds up and down wellington paths and steps ).

I felt good about my community service as the people who had the time to donate to the charity were older and could not do the " grunt work ", they got labor they needed for free and I got my fines of my back .................

I even said to the nice lady as she signed of my last hours of community work that it was a shame we couldn't operate a system where I could get in credit with my labor so that my next fines would already be taken care of.......

When I was in court a young boy racer got the last part of $30,000 in fines converted to community service ....... he'd already done 200 hours which I thought was to his credit.

Why burden the young with debts they can never pay ????

Surely it is better to engage them and get them interacting in a work environment with older and varied people. Get them involved and feeling part of something good and something different.

I see community service as a win win situation where punishment can actually become a positive .

  • conseismal,

(i fail to see in what sense the shit you actually end up doing constitutes any kind of service whatsoever to the community - when in nz i was zapped for brazenly trying to liberate certain library books from the biblioteques's balcony, and my destiny turned out to be daily schlepping on down to a place called 'Youthtown'. there to watch newborn breakdancers frantically doing boot camp for the imminent arrival of Missy Elliot, and that, my frenz, was ALL i did, so help me godzone..) luv frm mr.on-topic

  • Rich of Observationz,

    FFS!

In the six years I've lived here I've maybe got four parking tickets. (Ok, I'm asking for it and will now get towed...)

If you don't want to pay fines, park where it's legal, don't drive in bus lanes, register your car, etc. It isn't a human right to plant your car where you want and how you want. If you can't afford to drive a car legally, then sell it and move somewhere with public transport.

You remember it's just (or at least mainly?) for PARKING TICKETS right? You know, not burglary, or rape, or murder, or muggings. PARKING TICKETS.

It's $20k worth of parking tickets. Clearly a recidivist offender. Lock him up....actually, can you be locked up for parking tickets? Hmmm, perhaps being surrounded by students is a worse punishment...?

Not terribly serious as offending goes.

Doesn't even disqualify one from being a police officer.

Apparently, nor does drink driving these days.
