I thought it was a Dutch company?
You're partly right Sacha. It was bought by Warner Bros last year.

The announcement begins...
It's really quite bloody marvellous. Renowned journalist and broadcaster John Campbell is coming home to Radio New Zealand.
JC will present a new multi-media drive-time news show, Jim Mora will stick to The Panel and Mary Wilson (Checkpoint) has been "promoted to a senior news management role" to make way for Campbell.
The new show debuts in September. Good on ya RNZ.

Will they dare call it Campbell Drive?
(not my line, thnx Pen :)) -
I see Rachel Smalley's upset about Campbell getting the RNZ role. She's worried about gender imbalance and mentions Hosking & Henry amongst males dominating our airwaves. John Campbell is widely acknowleged to be one of NZ's top presenters, so why shouldn't RNZ take advantage of TV3's stupidity?
As a NatRadio listener I currently listen to Kathryn Ryan and Kim Hill more than any other presenters, presenting a somewhat personal gender imbalance. Having JC in the late afternoons will go some way to restoring that.
Maybe an easy solution to keep Ms Smalley happy would be to ditch Hosking & Henry from all media. There we go... I fixed it!

You mean Rachel Smalley,
who called NZ women heifers and a bunch of Lardos? -

You'd think, after that, the lassie would keep her head down.
Or, is any attention better than none?

I do think opinion pieces are just that so have no concern for her assumptions about RNZ's restructure. I also found her apology for having a moment that she never intended to be heard a poor effort from an experienced radio/TV presenter. Completely unprofessional. Unlike the naive comment from Pebbles Hooper in her crass comment. I think though for Smalley, image (and a stereotypical one because of her comments) is more important than her wish for gender equality amongst her peers. I certainly don't like inequality but I think it comes in many forms and to pick her subject as Campbell gets a break after such a beating recently, could now also appear to have an ulterior motive. I mean ,why not complain when Henry was rehired after so much failure here and Oz? There may be too many white wealthy men around that pull strings in NZ and get the big jobs but she buys into it too, just by being there so in this dog eat dog world , yada yada yada.

Ponytailgate continues...
In more bad news for Key, Chief Ombudsman Dame Beverley Wakem has decided to investigate the decision by his office not to release any records of his contact with Glucina, the cafe's owners or its employees. This results from a complaint by Labour's Paul McMahon after his request under the Official Information Act was turned down by Key.
Under questioning from the Greens in Parliament he confirmed he had no contact with Glucina's Pink PR company, but would not answer questions about personal contact with the columnist.
Key may have a defense if he argues that he was wearing his slimy, shape-shifting reptilian hat every time he spoke with Glucina.
-
This could also impact on the press council's ruling on Glucina and the Herald. Let's hope for some more clarity. Just the decision not to release indicates there's something there.

I think this Government delays information in general. Requests take time and the delay involved makes the public forget. By the time something comes to light, the papers printing new information or TV interviewing Politicians who have already rubbished any inquiry, " nothing to see here," are left trying to remind the public of what it was. The Government effectively subdue and suppress by delay tactics.

So how's it going over at TV3 since they killed off New Zealand's favourite nightly current affairs show? To be honest, not all that well. Story hasn't rated anywhere near as highly as Campbell did, even when he was having a 300,000+ bad day.
In the 25-54-year-old group... TV3's performance in the 7-7.30pm slot for that demographic has worsened since Story launched. That time-slot attracted an average of 97,000 people in that age group in the four weeks before the launch of Story. Since then, that figure has declined to 84,000 viewers.
Oh well. I guess they have the partly NZ on Air funded 3D, prime time on Sunday nights. Christie & Co killed half an hour of news to make way for their all-new current affairs show, so you'd expect it would at least maintain the eyeballs it inherits from the news. But nope! Last Sunday's 3 News delivered 252,550 viewers which dropped away to 209,320 during 3D according to Nielsen. So that one's not working either.
The PM reckons people are only looking for entertainment, so let's shift that bugger to late Monday night and fill the slot with something fresh, imaginative and entertaining. Let's call it 7 Days of Sport -- which is, not surprisingly, a hybrid of 7 Days and sports programming.
Hosted by a different prominent sportsperson each week, the show will feature two teams captained by the sports-fan stars of Friday night's 7 Days including Dai Henwood, Urzila Carlson and Ben Hurley.
How underwhelming. A foul whiff of increasing desperation seems to be pervading the Christie/Wheldon camp.

How much did Campbell Live cost to produce compared with what's replacing it? Surely that must also factor into TV3's thinking.

Hi story
I found Story ’s narrative and characters lacking in chemistry and substance. Garner seemed to be trying on Key’s ‘gauche Everybloke’ persona, while du Plessis-Allan ‘lady-blokes’ it a bit as well and over-eggs the emoting, perhaps that is just physiognomy.
Depth of coverage is not great either. There was a distinct whiff of ‘budget’ about it all, and not in an endearing way.I am not a repeat viewer.

It’s an awkward watch, they’re sitting so close together that if one were to yawn (which would be understandable) the other might need to visit the chiropractor. Not being able to see the sides of their desk gives the sense that it’s shot in a corridor or someone’s dining room.
characters
Indeed.
There was a segment this week where they were discussing fridges, not wanting a black fridge because Kim Dotcom has one was du Plessis-Allan’s punchline, because there’s always a punchline, when your show is little more than.

this!
it's like they are in each other's and the viewers' personal space,
also feels like they couldn't afford another metric unit of background set,
so the shot is kept tight!
- filming through a fridge box does much the same thing
and is even cheaper
(Mr Weldon & Ms Christie can have that advice for free) -

So Is this a TV3 endorsement of the PM's Flag? Put right in front of Garner and Co. After all, Julie Christie's blatant conflict of interest couldn't be more blatant with her association with the NZ Story board who have cleared the path for the
Fern .They also show the board of NZ Story - to which Ms Christie was appointed by Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce in November 2013 - had discussed the NZ Trade and Enterprise logo and "had formally agreed to support the use of the NZ Way Fern Mark in any flag design"
Seriously, does the woman have no shame or is she just a female version of Key?All glitz, just shits. It's like they are on P and just can't get enough.I see very little difference.

Story isn't working out as well as TV3 had hoped. According to Throng it's viewed by fewer people than watched Campbell Live on a bad day.
In September 2014 Campbell Live ratings had shot up from an average of 199,000 to a respectable 241,000. When the CL "review" was announced, that live audience figure surged to 484,000 with a further 32,000 on TV3+1 -- over half a million viewers in total. Take a bow John Campbell.
Story started off O'K reaching 276,000 on it's first night, but since then numbers have dwindled with an average nightly audience of just under 190,000 viewers.
Meanwhile Paul Henry is languishing in the mornings with a mere 15,000-28,000 viewers -- roughly half the audience of the Breakfast show which TVNZ plans to replace that the end of the year with some "international lifestyle content". Good morning... please leave your brain at the door.
Is it possible that John Key was wrong? Viewers don't seem to be craving that non-stop diet of fluffy crap and "entertainment" which Mediaworks insists on serving at every meal.
