If it's gone away, why did Ian Wishart's most recent compilation of paranoid ravings stay in the front window of the Lambton Quay Whitcoulls for months?
-
"pommie commie" (Press gallery chair Vernon Small); "bastion of Islamofascism" (Morning Report); "racist TV" (Maori Television); "communist tabloid" (The Dominion Post) and "run by National's biggest enemies" (The New Zealand Herald)
"Trollops for Tyranny" and variations (The Royal Society of NZ)

Scientists do science, but fail to come up with the correct ideological result for Lindsay, and thus attract many adolescent sexual insults. Way to keep up the intellectual standards!
-
I have never listened to Lindsay Perrigo on the radio, but reading that press release I am wondering if he is entirely sane.
-
Perigo was writing a column on 'political incorrectness' (moron alert) for Salient last year; various undergraduate arts students wrote in to debate him and his subsequent column consisted of rebuttal in which he explained to them that they were loathsome brainwashed parasites who deserved to die.
I guess the next logical move in his career is to stand on street corners in his underwear screaming obscenities and handing out photocopied pamphlets about John Galt.
-
That paper is great!
Prime examples include John Key agreeing that the Ministry ofWomen’s Affairs was run by man-hating lesbians [67]; former MP Newman agreeing that Mental Health Foundation CEO Judi Clements was a stupid bitch [80], and ACT deputy leader (and Social Services spokesperson) Heather Roy agreeing that the government had a feminazi welfare agenda [76]; positions they might have been more reluctant to take in the cold light of the mainstream media.
Heh. And also, yikes.

No need to reinvent the wheel here: Zenith Applied Philosophy is still going.

Wow. Whoever wrote that wiki page is a freakin' genuis.

What's wrong with lesbians?

Or what's wrong with being a lesbian I should say?

If the discourse isn't exactly expansive (indeed, it is as numbingly repetitive as any Soviet tract), perhaps it is, at least, consistent?
This is the discourse of opposition - it is normal and it is banal. It is inconsistent in its argument by virtue of being consistent in its opposition.
During the 1990s Perigo "used to be a good interview subject" when offering criticism of a government and during the 2000s when his mind became "a space from which various elements of his psyche throw poos at the world" Perigo offered criticism of a government.
Maybe Perigo did suffer a mental collapse that occured coincidentally with a change of government occuring in 1999. Or maybe Russell's party of choice obtained power and Perigo's criticism sounded less astute, more silly.
-
That whole Helengrad thing is very good propaganda *for* Labour really, given the way it shows those who engage in it as completely barking mad.

Oh come on - I quite likely don't share Mr Brown's preference of party, yet I remember thinking Mr Perigo presented reasonable discussion in his roles through the 90s. Compare that to the press release above?

Yeah, good try Angus. I think any longitudinal analysis would show a significant qualitative deterioration in Perigo's language and the ideas he is prepared to express. Read the paper, or the press release Lyndon linked to and tell me he talked like that in early 90s.
Also, your argument only works because you invented something for me to say in the qualifier "when offering criticism of a government". That's really cheating.
-

Perigo on the opposition: "the National Socialist Party".
Insightful criticism, Angus? Or ... poo.

The change from his presenting personality back in the day, to what he comes out with now is either soooooooo tongue in cheek that I'm missing it, or it must be a fairly serious mental illness surely? And I don't say that lightly or out of spite, I feel incredibly sorry for the guy...

It shows a bunch of people who are simply too lazy to think after presumably spending all their energy typing, or speaking and having nothing left.
What are the conservative or right-wing equivalent poo labels that lefties use?

Nazional, springs to mind, plus the general use of fascist etc

Welcome back Danyl.
One of the problems with Danyl's foray into blogdem is that he seems to have less time for commenting on blogs.
To be honest, I think these comments are his true calling and blogging is for Danyl like an indie band "going commercial". His true fans reject the move.
-
Yeah, fascist is a common one (if totally wrong, uninformed and inappropriate). Also can be used by the right to add on to 'nanny state' or at a stretch 'pc'.
-
I always took the hate language as an acceptance they're a minority and so sit in a cnr by themselves and sulk.
It's pretty poisonous stuff & I would have thought repulsive language to post regardless of politics.
ZAP aren't too bad these days, as far as their Belfast opperations go. Grandad backs onto them and they were a 24hr op with tractors & bulldozers going full light & noise but they've toned down. I don't know their politics but at least the keep to normal hours these days.

Did you corporate masters tell you to ask that question?

Or what's wrong with being a lesbian I should say?
One of the interesting points drawn out in the paper is that, in talkback-land, lesbianism isn't really a huge issue in its own right. But adding it to other value-laden symbols 'promotes' it into something bigger than the sum of its parts. It seems that when you combine the word 'lesbian' with 'socialist', talkback audiences are somehow struck with contradictory impressions of sexual deviance, sexual puritanism and obsessive control over private lives. Or at least, that's what I got from the paper.
What are the conservative or right-wing equivalent poo labels that lefties use?
I'd agree with what Paul said, but note that the extreme left already has its own extensive set of poo labels drawn from particular understandings (or misunderstandings) of Marxist theory, as funneled through innumerable parties and organisations over the last century. A mild sample of what I can remember my own research, just for flavour:
- oppressor
- imperialist
- comprador
- puppet
- revisionist
- capitulationist
- right deviationist/left deviationist
- social imperialist/socialist imperialist (applied by China to Soviet Union)
- black elements
- rightist/capitalist restorationist (Chinese campaigns 1950s/60s)
- saboteurs/wreckers (Stalinist era purges) -
Can I just say I'm quite happy with how we've ended up with such a useful and expressive term as "poo labels".

Stoddard's essay hurt my brain on many levels. I'm sure it's targets will simply dismiss it as yet another example of the hegemony defending itself (Stoddard's brief examination of the right-wing hate blogs probably dissauded further examination; the briefest sampling of kiwiblog would be overwhelming).
I've to send it on to someone I know in Julia Gillard's staff, she'll face precisely the same shit soon enough.
