The point was neatly illustrated today with the DomPost publishing a facsimile of the "wrap-around supplement to The Dominion to mark man's greatest achievement"
16 pages. Content. Oh my, the content. As rich as Whittakers.
Wow, you weren't kidding. Remarkably broad and informed op-ed pieces, and so much more. Also, did people really once write that much in the average letter to the editor? And what did Taihape Jack mean when he wrote off the landing as "another pool of blood"? So many questions...
(Astro-pedantry: I noted that their diagram of the rocket labelled the command and service modules the wrong way around, but still, it adds to the charm...)
But yes, you would never ever see such a thing today. Sad.

MEDIA7 TONIGHT: Barry Colman and Bernard Hickey interviews; Jock Anderson on his PRINZ complaint against Glenda Hughes + more. 9.10pm, TVNZ 7 (Channel 97 Sky)
The recording went pretty well last night, although our crowd was a little intimidated by the studio setting for most of the show. We will work on ways to lessen their inhibitions.
OTOH, it looks way more swish. The cameras move around and everything.

The most uninhibited telly recording I've been to is Back Benches, filmed at the Backbencher pub. So it must be that having lots of politicians around lets people loosen up. Yeah, that must be it.

I suspect that hardware may come to the publishers' rescue, by which I mean that a really good post-Kindle mobile information product could work. Mobile communications services have always been able to sell the contents of their walled gardens, but the experience has largely sucked.
Word. Just back from o'seas where I spotted a kindle-like player in airport shops. It wasn't a kindle at all, but I think a Sony or something or other competitor.
The experience sucked; when you clicked the button to turn the page, the page went into this kind of double take before 'turning' - very weird. It would kind of 'blink' twice, then have a short period, then turn the page. Bad design.

My prediction is that either DRM on the Kindle will be dead before Xmas, or the Kindle will be.

Or that Barry Coleman will be their NZ agent.

Point. ;-)
