Really, I think our government's organs should be investigating how the Scouts (originally formed by a Cecil Rhodes sidekick as a tool to promote British imperialism) are now undermining our glorious National media in this way. It's probably all part of a conspiracy to keep the Union Jack on the flag and thus retain our country under the mystic suzerainty of the late Queen Victoria. Or something.

How bad are things getting at Mediaworks? Really bad. Weldon has taken a company the was operating profitably under his predecessor, Sussan Turner, and headed it for a $15m loss – knocking as much as $150m off its market value in the process.
And meanwhile Sussan Turner, has been snapped up to serve on the TVNZ board.

I think I referred to Perlina Lau as 'the young social media woman' - I would never use the dismissive sexist word 'chick'. I don't watch that Paul Henry programme so not familiar with the names of people on it, but it is sometimes on in the house, so I guess what their roles are.

From the bits 'n' pieces 'n' edges I have heard (radio) she manages to keep her dignity amongst the shenanagins. However there is not an inevitability to working in these environments-professionals can conscientiously eject.
There's no reason at all that she should make herself unemployed (or even refuse an opportunity). Jesus, it's not like they're eating babies in the morning.

Even White Man Behind a Desk on the TPPA has a Scout reference

Yes, indeed. Shouldn't have strung those two seperate thoughts together.
I mean to say that working on the Mediaworks oeuvre doesn't mean one inevitably has to be hoovered down into a potentially toxic sump a la Scout never to breath unfouled air again.....does it?

Scout's first week hasn't gone well. After all, following the heady launch "EXCLUSIVE" -- "Mike Hoskings Washes Car", there was really only one direction for the site to go. And it did. RNZ notes that by day three, the "exclusives" had completely dried up.
No new stories were posted between 9:30am and 6pm, and there wasn't any exclusive content the entire day, save for an attack on the Scouts Association of New Zealand.
If launching an assault on boy scouts was ill-advised, the site's factual accuracy was even more questionable. It's possible that people who inhabit a certain Auckland social circle might view Max Key as influential, if only for flaunting daddy's wealth. But as NBR points out, at least one of Scout's “25 most influential Kiwis 25 and under” is actually Irish, two didn't fit the 'under 25' bracket at all and another who made number 16 on the list is only influential because... well, because she is due to appear in the next season of TV3's predictable and overcooked reality show, The Block.
Today's Mediawatch has an excellent summary of Scout's first week, its gloss job on Judith Collins and blatant promotion of Mediaworks' personaltities.
Let's see...
* Kill NZ's best and most-loved current affairs show - check.
* Take failed in Oz former Nat candidate, give him his own show - check.
* Pour resources into vile gossip site - check.
* Take product placement & self-promotion to a new level - check.
* Turn company profit into a loss - check.Take a bow Mark Wheldon and Julie Christie... your work here must almost be done.

Life's too short to keep track of all the Mediaworks incest, but there were a couple more last night: TV3's Story had Dom Harvey (I didn't watch it, turned off at 7.01 pm as usual) and Scout's pre-news minute teased us with Mr Green the Bachelor.
It seems that cross-promotion is now compulsory every day.

ahaha – “Block NZ debuts to worst ratings ever”
The ad campaigns tried a bit too hard to ape the superhero thing, you reckon?

They're not even bothering to pretend any more.
Scout's latest celebrity, featuring in their TV trailers? Julie Christie. Yep.

I noticed that too while cueing up 3News on Sky. How incestuous can they get? And what's next... sifting through Mark Wheldon's underwear drawer? FFS.

I'd like to think that snout will continue to try scrape a miniature barrel with nobody interested but lackeys, because of her despicable, dishonest treatment of Amanda Bailey. The bitch deserves nothing.

They went for an attempted slap at TVNZ last night (or may have been the night before): "Bad Morning".
Weak.
-
It’s beginning to sound, somewhat perversely, as if viewer numbers for the show might increase just to watch the obvious train wreck.
Glucina-sniffing. Just say no, mmkay? -

Radio ratings are out - and Paul Henry has rocketed from 4.5 to 5% share in Auckland. Breathless Fairfax journo spins this as a stunning success. Weldon and Christie must be overjoyed their boy is doing em proud.

Each week 178,000 different people listen to Newstalk ZB.
Forgive me for being naive, but if that’s the weekly audience the total daily reach for the station over 24 hours must be around 25,000, give or take. That seems surprisingly unimpressive to me.
A quick Google search shows the sample size to be 3,000-3,286.
-
The Herald is spinning the ratings the other way announcing that Hosking beats Henry. Not literally, unfortunately.
New figures show more than 255,000 Kiwis (aged 10+) tune into Mike Hosking on ZB, while 107,800 listen to Paul Henry on Radio Live.
I'm guessing they're the weekly figures.

They're correct, though the last line is useful:
Newstalk ZB is owned by NZME, which also owns and publishes The New Zealand Herald.

It seems like nothing is going right for Mediaworks these days. Not only are Paul Henry and the Block crashing, but their flagship current affairs show 3D is also tanking. The move from Sunday primetime to a dismal Monday 9:30pm slot saw the average audience drop by three quarters. Attracting a mere 29,500 viewers in their key 25-54 demographic is unsustainable for a commercial channel.
You could get the impression that TV3 has pissed off the audience it once had for intelligent programming. Or should that be "pissed on"?

Julie noted...
I spotted this Julie Christie Mansion story when I visited Russell's Public Address Twitter feed for the first time today -
and one I'd not have seen if I hadn't gone there - this seems like a story that needs more eyes than just the twitteratis... -

How to launder your income into capital gains... Nice work if you can get it.
Also, an independent valuation will usually be a lowball amount (I knew one for $320k where the house went a month later for $400k).
