  • Matthew Poole,

This is gold. You've got a private stash and are holding out. I can tell!

  • Ben D,

If I was holding I would want to maximise my return for myself and my uplink. The best time, therefore, would be to play out a little post Election, in order to create that Chaos and Mayhem so desired for those hunting fresh fish via clickbait. 10 days of turmoil versus 3 years of bickering, snide tribal conflict....

As Frank Macskasy has shown us we don't need the Man - we can figure it out for ourselves ....

Yes Paul to the careful work done by Frank Macskasy regarding the impossible time line of the release of the OIA re Mr Liu and David Cunliffe. The OIA was was published in the Herald within minutes of being released including Armstrong's call for resignation. Brook Sabin made a package on the OIA in 4 minutes after the OIA release. Hard to see an alternative explanation given the facts.

  • Nik Dirga,

Magnificent piece. I'm getting a real echo of the US 2004 election here, where I was in a kind of bubble of anti-Bush supporters and truly shocked when he won re-election - how could so many people ignore what seemed so obvious? The comedown from this buzz will be harsh....

  • Paul Campbell,

no, I think we've got the number of the major supplier of our raw ingredients, if he keeps making them we can mainline a DP scandal every week or so for the foreseeable future

    Me too.
Plus a little insight into what seemed to me the incoherent and uncalled for rage of the passionate/loony right after Labour squeaked back in in 2005.
Meth is right for politics. But not my drug of choice, in normal circumstances :)

  • Andrew Geddis,

Hey - don't worry! On the 15th, Kim Dotcom will ride in and deliver a big bag of pure, uncut … BZP? Kratom? Talcum-Powder mixed with crushed aspirin?

  • David Herkt,

"...sucking on the blackened, empty glass pipe of accountability as if it’ll deliver the hit he needs" must be one of the best political metaphors of the whole election so far.

    Great piece.

  • BenWilson,

I've often thought I've become a political junkie who should cut back, or even go cold turkey. But just as recovering alcoholics find it really hard around Christmas, I've fallen off the wagon approaching the election, when Rawshark hit me with the good shit. I even managed to resist Hager, and was feeling so proud that I actually wrote myself a little certificate saying "28 days AFK", and showed it to friends.

Now I feel terrible, that burned out husky feeling that you just blew a little bit more of your life away for nothing, that hungover feeling of the utter, utter worthlessness of it all. This will be my last, last post.

  • william blake,

Russel, you are unfortunately correct in equating Nicky's research as a commodified experience, rather than the amazing insight into a way of politics we were only peripherally aware of. It is this commodification which has allowed the right to bundle up Dirty Politics and ignore it.

  • Alec Morgan,

One toot over the line... more fear and loathing ahead on the never ending campaign trail 2014–17. The ‘dark kiwis’ may get the narrow election result they desire but they will have won little.

There are wounded tory beasts out there, Slatergate blowback will take them down by attrition over many months. But are enough media, corporate and National people willing to make some amends for their dirty tricks brigade?

  • Robyn Gallagher,

I made an advance vote on Monday and it was really thrilling. Today my Easy Vote card arrived and now I want to relive the thrillz all over again.

  • Kevin McCready,

Love the metaphor and its accuracy. Wish I could spend the time to respond in kind with the following:

Some, not all, swinging voters I know are naive, so believe "they are all the same". Therefore they believe the attack on Key is unfair and have harded again in their waning support for him.

Isn't it a maxim that negative campaigning puts off the politically blind. And it's them we need to vote these psycopaths out. Ooops I just got negative again.

  • Euan Mason,

And the beneficiaries of this are Winston Peters and (maybe) Colin Craig.

If JK can't form a governing coalition after the election then the corporate backers will drop him and find another, less tarnished face to sell their low wage/low tax/low regulation/state asset sale/socialize pollution costs agenda.
