I'm slightly excited about the event, though the ticket prices have turned me off to going to see any of the games.
I've always been an advocate of Dunedin getting a new stadium. Ignoring some of the details and the way that the one we've gotten has been paid for, I like the new stadium. Nuts that for many years we've had our primary sporting venue stuck in a residential area. I drive past the new stadium several times a week, it's going to be a fantastic facility with its roof.

As well as showing that we're not all rugby and dairy, we appear intent on showing that there is no homelessness in New Zealand.
The homeless of central Auckland will be cared for by security officers charged with ensuring their "safety and amenity" for the duration of the tournament. How charming.

I can quite enjoy sports writing too even when it is about a sport that I don't follow. Norman Mailer's The Fight and Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch spring to mind but I am sure there are many more. If you count chess as a sport (iffy I know) then I really enjoyed Fred Waitzkin's Searching for Bobby Fischer and Mortal Games. Bobby Fischer Goes to War by David Edmonds and John Eidinow was another interesting book as the idiosyncrasies of Bobby Fischer made for interesting reading (the book is set during his match with Boris Spassky - not when he become another boring, slightly crazy anti-semite kook).
Interesting bug with the italics that after a full stop you can't have the starting underscore only the ending underscore probably something to do with the character before the full stop being an underscore also - give me standard html tags any day. Much easier to just write <em> and </em>.

Bad luck to the Crusaders it would have been nice for CHCH for them to win.
Apart from being a bit bummed by the loss, this did actually occur to me too. As Blackadder said before the game, win draw or lose, he would be incredibly proud of what they have done this season as a team. But yeah, a win would have been good.

Yeah, http://www.greens.org.nz/press-releases/auckland-sweeps-homeless-streets-rwc.
I'm surprised not to see tenders for a great firewall of NZ to prevent online violations of sporting rights during the event. Still, I guess it would be easy to repurpose the existing internet filter.

Thanks.
(you know, it would actually be easier if the site just linkified links, like twitter, rather than all thet [ [ xxx | yyy ] ] business. ).

"safety and amenity"
Well, that's certainly a classic bit of doublespeak.

It does, and has done for a long time. Just put the raw link in your post with no square brackets in sight and behold the magic.

Yup. You only have to use the brackets if you want the link to apply to a specific piece of text.

Hmm! Dissent in the ranks? I have been away (watching the Super final at the Crown Casino in Melbourne--the only place I could find it screening in a city dominated by another daft ball game--was a low point). But we have our tickets to the Japan vs AB game in Hamilton and I am looking forward to it mightily.

A recipe for... an evening at home
I’m thinking braised beef short ribs
could be the go.beefy shorts 'n' bruised ribs
with liniment sauce, yum.......reminds me of watching the Crusaders final
at our local tavern - not something I'll do again.
If all that testosterone gets crammed into
the test tosser zone it's gonna be ugly...
I worry that many NZ Rugby fans are just
not adult enough to not let the side down. -

Evoked that giant brassica-themed grafitto-poem that once adorned the reservoir wall at the K Rd end of Ponsonby Rd:
BROTHEL SPROUTS & CAULIFLOWER EARS -
As the dreaded RWC ( am I allowed to use those letters without fear of being sued?) rears its ugly head more of Monster McCully's draconian powers come to light.
Want to serve those crowds that happen to be passing your business? It' gonna cost ya
And how about having a few relevant souvenirs in your gift shop?
And, god forbid, you want to advertise your stock of Lion Red, or anything but Heineken) if your shop just happens to be on the road to Eden Park or near any other Game Venue.
"But wait", I hear you call "this is a golden opportunity for us all"
Yes, indeed, a golden opportunity for you to cough up even more of your HEM™ (hard earned money, you know, that sort of money that you don't have to work hard for, the disposable stuff)
It's almost enough to make you want to move to Hamilton to save some of that aforementioned cash, well, almost.
I could go on but I'm sure you get my drift.
