This whole brick wall is a rarity downtown (and there's a bit of light play), so it's worth a post.

    What a marvel - a seriously earthquake-resistant brick wall!
I marvelled at this brickwork tower - All Saints church on the corner of The Square in Palmerston Nth. Are those slender tree branches reaching out to help hold it up?

But no, the wider shot shows they are instead providing a skeletal framework for the clouds.
And a little research reveals the church's structural strength is assessed at only 3% of the earthquake code requirements, and was closed to the public earlier this year pending a decision on its future. Here's hoping ...

Another macro digression: [ ... ]cat fur. As you can see some brushing up needed!

I'll match yours with another non-macho digression: what the opened jar of stewed plums did in the fridge while I was away. Prettier colour scheme than your cat, and more easily fixed too no doubt.

    3%? That’s fall-over-in-a-puff-of-wind dangerous. Lovely towers.

Those stewed plums are evilly beautiful. Bottlingtulism.

    evilly beautiful

No fear, acidity of the plums and opened jar means aerobic surface conditions for growth of airborne fungal spores - no risk of anaerobic bacteria in non-acid conditions producing bottlingulism (great word! - hint of lingua franca in botulism there).
So non-evil beauty enjoyed, before surface layers spooned off and remaining stewed plums enjoyed too.

Meanwhile back in the PNth Square, I sight this ontopical optical opportunity to test my eyesight - it doth protest too much, methinks?

The oddly segmented reflective surfaces are ontop of a stony-faced block adjacent the war memorial - ponded residue of the last shower, polished stone, and less polished stone.

That's great - and how considerate to place the reflecty surface where you can make good use of it. Really like the lower church tower shot too.

    And plum-fungus? Or fungus-floss?

    I have no reflections

    100% pure New Zealand?

I'm about 50/50 on that question.
    Or is it just ambivalence?

  • Kyle Matthews,

Newmarket today was nests and eggs

Nora, if that's a reflection, why can't I find the camera (and photographer?) in it? *puzzled*

Mainly because I'm sneaky! Look carefully at the right hand side of the white egg.... the photographer can;t get away with being completely hidden ; )

As a distraction from GCSB, fish and all that..... another Newmarket egg. This time I'm right there in the center, but the light is dim, my reflection just merges with the building. How convenient.

Here is Stella with her punk rock cone of silence. She found the Victorian ruffle just a tad too British so proceeded to crash into anything pogoing from one of my legs to one of t’others. She actually enjoyed it to our surprise and to my gratefulness of the hole in her leg closing up.

And here is Stella with her new one on after the Vet felt another $15 was warranted.

Like she wants a boxing ,match.:)

This one is just hanging around. They actually have a good nod on during the day but the Puriri Moth is due in Dec so what’s it doing here now I ponder? We left the door open one night, light on ( oh the luxury of solar power :) and 15 of them wore themselves out. 1 got drunk on red wine. I counted them the next morning. 16. they hung out for the morning then 10 gone just like that. Fascinating stuff for me anyhow.

Hello there Sofie! Nice to see you posting again : ) And Jos and ChrisW, such lovely crisp pics.

And the good egg Hebe, there's a clutch of them in the swished up part of Newmarket shops, I think they're meant to make it look, y'know, hip. Kids know though, it's a challenge to climb.

    More from Newmarket, wet day....

Me too. Nuffing like a good long spy on nature. I’m into the garden right now (when I should be trying to earn). We’re reclaiming about 180 sq m from the deadbeat chickens, trampoline, unused kayaks and ivy plague. Amazing the wildlife in a suburban patch. This is going to be our intensive-ish food-growing area, with puppies only allowed in when supervised.

Daisy is proving a natural-born digger, which is a little disturbing. Yesterday I could hear the pups ruffing and growling down there. We have an old door with safety glass and a 20cm deep frame sitting on top of a slightly raised bed which I am using as a protected area for growing rocket. I left the old cat door hole open thinking some air and moisture wouldn’t hurt. There were two puppies: streaking around under the glass, slinking around as low and as fast as they could playing “chase the sister”. The pop, out of the cat door hole and off. I fell about laughing – until I found the remainders of the rocket. So fortifications are essential.

Hit the Kale. Good nutrients and then at least if the pups take charge, they will be well nourished. If you grow enough they could scruff up their own patch, alleviating their personal needs and eliminating your despair. I’m going to try a companion planting using the bush as my companion and protector. Don’t ask me how but it will happen. I also do not need to grow much . I’m surrounded by very generous neighbours and our contribution is now excellent beer . So enough to make pickles, relish, sauces etc and some basics should work. Remember Kale is your friend ;)
Funny, I am a rabbit ( Proud Scum) just burst across my TV screen. :)) Mainstream advertising now. "I've got to have it"....... Excellent!

Hello there Sofie! Nice to see you posting again :

I'm not around much and although I possess lappy, time is my limited commodity. Sometimes I get a glimpse of all yous and your fantastic stuff but frankly most times I'm at the red wine stage of winding down. It's not overly easy pioneering again ;)
I'm around (should you feel afraid)but concentrating on other stuff. My back is fucked up at the mo. Pain is an experience all in itself :)
    They have pills you know?
Also we are inventing concepts along with building and tests are proving agreeable.
I gotta do 4 hrs drive at 9am .I should rest. Haere rā . xx
