A Buzzy Bee in a window, watching the little bears escape! Great shots Gudrun. Thanks.

Shared that a bit wider through twitter. Hope you don't mind. Stunning photo.
ETA: Autumn leaves post. Hmm, there's an idea.

I think it is very generous of you to do that (no idea how to twitter). It always enjoyed me how quick those leave- munching trucks would come and remove this beautiful foliage for public safety.

Poor old Godley. Described by D'Arcy Cresswell as the "founder foundering in a pot of tar."

Is that Victoria Park or Victoria Square -- the willow?
-
Yes Hebe it is. A little red oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of Colombo Street and Armagh Street. A good thing is the trees and the benches are still there and it wont be long before we will sit once again in the park and share stories.

Wonder how the old fountain with the coloured lights at night fared. I loved that light show as a child.

Hebe where was or is it? I will go and have a look.

In Victoria Square on the Colombo St side about half-way along. Can't miss it; big old stone fountain. Monolithic rather than artistic but the lights made it look good.
And I have been wondering about the floral clock on the other side of the square near the courts. Such a fine piece of kitsch -- all bright bedding plants and a great big pair of clock hands on a slight hillock. http://www.ccc.govt.nz/cityleisure/artsculture/artinthecity/clocks/floralclock.aspx

As soon as humanly possible i will go there and take those snaps. As you probably know they are deconstructing the Park Royal now and therefore it's off limit to mere mortals. I know now which fountain you refer to. As a matter of fact i will go there now and see what i can and what i can not see. Gotta run......

H L Bowker fountain - first illuminated electric fountain in Australasia. Like a 1930s lava lamp, only better.
Also floral clock info. -

I like a good fountain; we need more around town.
I'd like a tactile/sensory earthquake memorial like a labyrinth made of pounamu, or a large rill/small river of spring water with pounamu boulders plonked along a winding path that you could follow, touch, dip your hands in, children young and old could play in, in a sunshiney corner of town. Something symbolising life and regeneration.

Epic statue that -- I've never looked closely at it before. It's always been there, in my life and embedded in my brain (first met an eventual husband on its steps one New Year's Day). I'm treasuring what's left in the city rather than mourning what isn't. (the building behind looked good but was hideous to work in).

This one is still standing.
I’ve always hated that War Memorial! I remember looking at the sad photos of the Cathedral post-Feb-22 and thinking, “Dammit, that bloody thing’s still standing!”
I’m fond of the Bowker Fountain though (thanks for the ID, Joe). I remember my Dad taking me there when I was aged 3 or 4 at night-time as a special treat. It was pretty amazing :-)
Thanks for all the nostalgic shots, Gudrun.

Hi Lilith, I feel this is a bit like looking at a favorite family member. We try to recall the happy times we had . While i am not an original Cantabrian i have become very attached to the Canterbury Plains and feel a strong connection to this place.
There will be pretty places once again to meet family and friends in the not too distant future. -

Thanks Gudrun; I like the dandelion effect - it's better without the water. I liked the Stewart fountain too before it was buggered by the modernisers.
